Advanced Designs

In addition, most devices provide operator control of settings for temperature and/or response slope, isopotential point, zero or standardization, and function (pH, mV, or monovalent—bivalent cation—anion). Microprocessors are incorporated in advanced-design meters to faciHtate caHbration, calculation of measurement parameters, and automatic temperature compensation. Furthermore, pH meters are provided with output connectors for continuous readout via a strip-chart recorder and often with binary-coded decimal output for computer interconnections or connection to a printer. Although the accuracy of the measurement is not increased by the use of a recorder, the readabiHty of the displayed pH (on analogue models) can be expanded, and recording provides a permanent record and also information on response and equiHbrium times during measurement (5). [Pg.467]

If, on the other hand, a vapor cloud s explosive potential is the starting point for, say, advanced design of blast-resistant structures, TNT blast may be a less than satisfactory model. In such cases, the blast wave s shape and positive-phase duration must be considered important parameters, so the use of a more realistic blast model may be required. A fuel-air charge blast model developed through the multienergy concept, as suggested by Van den Berg (1985), results in a more realistic representation of a vapor cloud explosion blast. [Pg.136]

Moreover, because all fuels burn, POX does not demand a catalyst, although advanced designs often use one to lower flame temperatures, which helps to relax materials requirements and to improve efficiency and emissions. The hydrogen concentration, however, is considerably lower (—40%) because... [Pg.526]

There is one area where improvements can be achieved, namely the increase in thermal performance by changing to a more advanced design of packing. Care has to be taken to ensure that the new pack configuration is compatible with the quality of water as well as its quantity. The water treatment conditions could change, and almost certainly the distribution system will need amendments. The benefits to be obtained can be listed as follows ... [Pg.530]

Modem Dewar flask equipment includes an adiabatic shield, a compensation heater, and a computer to provide for control and for data acquisition and analysis. An example of the application of an advanced design is the adiabatic storage test (AST) [120,121]. In the AST, the heat generated at nearly adiabatic conditions by the reacting or decomposing substances is determined as a function of time. [Pg.68]
