Adhesives, multilayer film composite

Amine Functional Specialty Polymers as Adhesives in Multilayer Film Composite Structures... [Pg.186]

A novel organic (chitosan) and inorganic (tetraethyl orthosilicate) composite membrane has been prepared, which is pH sensitive and drug permeable [258]. The latter possibly involved in ionic interactions. By plasma source ion implantation technique, the adhesion between linear low-density polyethylene and chitosan could be improved [259]. Such bilayer films showed 10 times lower oxygen permeability, a property of use in food packaging applications. These multilayer films were easily recyclable. [Pg.156]

To replace glass, a plastic substrate must offer the properties of glass, i.e. clarity, dimensional stability, thermal stability, barrier, solvent resistance, low coefficient of thermal expansion, and a smooth surface. No plastic film has all these properties so any plastic based substrate will almost certainly be a multilayer composite structure. In addition to choosing the right materials for the different layers, one now has a new set of issues associated with the properties of multilayer structures. These issues include the adhesion of the different layers, the effect of thermal and environmental cycling, and the effect of flexing the structure, not only on specific... [Pg.174]

Multilayered inhibited films with Cl desorption on one of the sides can be produced by a process illustrated in Fig. 2.5e, in which the liquid forced into the hose cavity is a film-forming inhibiting composition. To manufacture adhesive Aims on a polyolefine base, a film-forming composition has been developed that contains 2-10 wt% of mineral oil, 4-12 wt% of oil-soluble Cl, 3-10 wt% of rubber, 3-10 wt% of rosin, 5-16 wt% of tall pitch in an organic solvent. The composition is brought into contact with the extruded hose at a temperature of T = (0.6-0.9) Tm of polyolefine. As a result, an adhesive coating is formed on the hose surface, which is the source of Cl and shows high adhesion to metals (about lON/cm ) and to the base Aim [80]. [Pg.107]

In recent years a technique has been developed in which large quantities of adhesive resins called compatibilizers are used between layers of noncompatible extruded films, primarily in packaging applications. With this technology, up to seven layers of film (foil, paper, or plastic), up to three of which may be adhesive, may be combined to offer properties unlike that of any single-film material. The adhesive layer(s) may also contribute special properties to the multilayer composite film, in addition to acting as the compatibilizer. It is interesting to note that a particular plastic resin with adhesive properties may be used alone as an extruded plastic film, or in a multilayer composite film, where no compatibilizer is required, in which case it should not be counted in the adhesive statistics. This example is just one of hundreds where an intermediate or final user... [Pg.18]

A comparative study of EMI-shielding behavior of composite bulk specimens and multilayered thin-film specimens with an isolating adhesive layer between the films revealed that multilayer structures tend to be more effective shields than bulk specimens (Kim et al., 2010c Pande et al., 2009 Vovchenko et al., 2011). This higher value... [Pg.181]
