This procedure has been used for several years to prepare aluminium surfaces for painting. Even in an unsealed state, it was not generally thought that the oxide film produced, which is extremely dense, was suitable for either structural or semi-structural adhesive bonding although its corrosion resistance was known to be exceptional. It is a modem adaptation of the standard procedure which is now of interest to stractural adhesive bonders. [Pg.188]

When using isotropically conductive adhesives, placement of components is performed by the same equipment as used for nonadhesive attachment techniques. Die bonders are similar to those used for eutectic bonding except for the type of adhesive dispenser. Surface-mounted placement machines developed for solder paste assembly can also be... [Pg.855]

Reworking underfilled flip-chip devices or BGA parts also presents new challenges since both solder and adhesive are present and both must be removed. New underfill formulations have had to be developed that soften, but do not char at the temperatures required to liquefy the solder. Some equipment manufacturers have modified their flip-chip bonders to include a rework station, In general, the chip undergoing rework is spot heated to... [Pg.256]

For these acidic substrates, a surface insensitive grade of cyanoacrylate must be used to ensure proper cure. The surface insensitive grades include special additives that can convert surface contamination into an activating species towards cyanoacrylates and then allow the adhesive to continue curing in the usual way. Such surface insensitive cyanoacrylates are good general-purpose bonders - making them particularly suited to applications where the condition of the substrate is not well defined. [Pg.5]

Film adhesives are applied by removing a paper or plastic separator/ protective film and laying the adhesive on the facing surface smoothly, taking care not to allow wrinkles to develop, or air to become entrapped between the adhesive and the substrate surface. A common workmanship error is failure to remove the separator film before assembly of the detail parts. Some bonders utilize special check-off points to insure its removal. The batch number, lot number, time and date of application, and adhesive type should be logged into the inspection record for traceability should a failure occur. The shop-life expiration date and time should also be logged to aid in controlling assembly and cure of the adhesive [5]. [Pg.359]

When mixed with graphite, carbon has lubricant-, strength-, and temperature-resistance properties that are useful in many applications. The properties of the mix depends on the variation in the mix, as well as the bonders and adhesives used. These properties will therefore vary between companies that make these products. For illustrative ptuposes, one compands product line, with applications, is outlined here. ... [Pg.136]
