Abrasion resistant high performance

Urethane-based polymers form lightweight, tough, abrasion-resistant, high-performance materiais ideal for use in a variety of sporting goods. [Pg.906]

The relative levels of each of the three isomers in a polymer such as BR can have a dramatic effect on the material s performance. For example, lithium-catalyzed solution polymers, with approximately 36% cis content, tend to process easily, whereas high-cis Ti and Ni polymers (92% cis) are more difficult to process at factory processing temperatures but show better abrasion resistance. High-trans BR (93% trans) tends to be a tough, crystalline material at room temperature. High-vinyl butadiene BR polymers in tire treads tend to show good wet skid and wet traction performance [7-10]. [Pg.407]

The mechanical properties of asbestos fibre cements depend on the quality, amount and orientation of the fibres the data given in Table 3.1 should be considered as relating to orientation only. The asbestos fibre cements were considered as cheap and durable, with high corrosion and abrasion resistance, good performance in elevated temperature and good resistance against freeze/thaw cycles. Usually the volume fraction of fibres in composites was 6%, sometimes increased up to 20%. Asbestos fibres (mixed... [Pg.51]

There is no question that the bane of textile chemists in the area of cross-linking for smooth-dry performance is the loss of abrasion resistance. This has been a continuing problem when durable press is pushed to high levels of performance. Numerous approaches to this problem have been explored (32). However, the simplest solution has been to blend cotton with synthetic fibers. A 50—50 cotton—polyester fabric can have exceUent smooth-dry performance and yet be able to endure numerous launderings. [Pg.443]

Porcelain enamels meet a variety of performance characteristics required for different appHcations. The common characteristics of all enamels include good adherence to the substrate and good thermal expansion fit to the metal. Specific properties depend on usage for example, acid and alkaH resistance, hot water resistance, abrasion resistance, thermal shock resistance, high gloss, high reflectance, specific color, heat resistance, and cleanabihty. [Pg.213]

One-step vulcanization, wide range of curing conditions, high loading elasticity, snappiness, no deformation, weatherability. ozone resistance, heat resistance, tear resistance, coating performance, adhesive properties, skid resistance, abrasion resistance... [Pg.181]

Polyetheretherketone PEEK is a high-temperature, crystalline engineering TP used for high performance applications such as wire and cable for aerospace applications, military hardware, oil wells and nuclear plants. It holds up well under continuous 450°F (323° C) temperatures with up to 600°F (316° C) limited use. Fire resistance rating is UL 94 V-0 it resists abrasion and long-term mechanical loads. [Pg.428]

Polybutadiene is produced by solution polymerisation, and one important feature governing the performance of the resultant polymer is the cis 1,4, and 1, 2 vinyl contents. High cis 1,4 polymers (>90%) have a Tg around -90 °C, and hence exhibit excellent low temperature flexibility only exceeded by the phenyl silicones. They also exhibit excellent resilience and abrasion resistance unfortunately the high resilience gives poor wet grip in tyre treads, and hence this rubber finds limited use as the sole base for such compounds. [Pg.88]

COPEs are appreciated for their high mechanical performances tenacity excellent abrasion and tear resistances good flex fatigue resistance high moduli resistance to ozone, oils... [Pg.702]

Carboxylated nitrile rubber (XNBR), a high-performance elastomer, is remarkable for providing vulcanizates that exhibit enhanced tensile strength, elastic modulus, hardness, and improved resistance to tear, abrasion, and the deleterious action of... [Pg.89]

Silicone rubber has both excellent low temperature and high temperature properties. It can withstand temperatures up to 315°C and workable at -65°C. Poor performance with low tear strength and abrasion resistance limit their use in most applications. Liquid silicone compounds LTV which are room temperature vulcanizable are useful for small repairs and sealing application and have been used for poured-in-place gaskets. [Pg.103]
