Acyclovir Zovirax

Ethonium and Decametaximun have shown rather high toxicity at both methods of testing whereas Zovirax (Acyclovir), E-aminocapronic acid, Ambenum and Sodium Aceminatum had a hypo toxicity at their influence on cells monolayer, and Colpoda steinii infusorians culture. [Pg.228]

Regulatory bodies around the world have given approval for NIR methods for a variety of purposes. In June 1995, the Medicines Control Agency (MCA) granted approval to Glaxo Wellcome in the United Kingdom for a NIR method for the identification and assay of Zovirax (acyclovir) tablets. This is believed to be the first official approval for NIR granted by the MCA as an assay method for tablets. [Pg.3632]

Acyclovir (Zovirax) and penciclovir (Denavir) are the only topical antiviral dragp currently available These dragp inhibit viral replication. Acyclovir is used in the treatment of initial episodes of genital herpes, as well as heqies simplex virus infections in immunocompromised patients (patients with an immune system incapable of fighting infection). Penciclovir is used for the treatment of recurrent herpes labialis (cold sores) in adults. [Pg.609]

Zovirax tablets, containing the antiviral drug acyclovir, are usually given in a dose of 80 mg/kg/day for five days for treating chickenpox. If the patient weighs 165 lb, how many ounce(s) of acyclovir would the patient consume if he has to take the full dose prescribed ... [Pg.47]

Acyclovir Zovirax) is a guanine nucleoside analogue most effective against HSV-1 and HSV-2, but it has some activity against VCV, CMV, and EBV. Valacyclovir (Valtrex) is the L-valine ester prodrug of acyclovir. Acyclovir is converted to its active metabolite via three phosphorylation steps. First, viral thymidine kinase converts acyclovir to acyclovir monophosphate. Next, host cell enzymes convert the monophosphate to the diphosphate and then to the active compound, acyclovir triphosphate. Because viral thymidine kinase has a much greater affinity for acyclovir triphosphate than does mammalian thymidine kinase, acyclovir triphosphate accumulates only in virus-infected cells. [Pg.569]

Topical acyclovir (Zovirax) is available as a 5% ointment topical penciclovir (Denavir), as a 1% cream for the treatment of recurrent orolabial herpes simplex virus infection in immunocompetent adults. Adverse local reactions to acyclovir and penciclovir may include pruritus and mild pain with transient stinging or burning. [Pg.1292]
