In more recent studies, Feng et al. (1999) calculated a Th water column residence time of 2 to 12 days in the Hudson River estuary. McKee et al (1986b) determined that " Th was removed on a time scale of a day or less in the very particle-rich environment of the Yangtze River estuary. In the Amazon River estuary, another particle-rich environment, McKee et al. (1986a) determined that the residence time of dissolved " Th ranged from 2 to 4 days. McKee et al. McKee et al. (1983) demonstrated that 234Th and 210Pb can be used to determine 100-d deposition and 100-y accumulation rates, respectively, near the mouth of the Yangtze River estuary (China). The short-term deposition rate was approximately 4.4 cm per month (figure 7.16a) versus accumulation rates of approximately 5.4 cm y-1 (figure 7.16b), integrated over one century. Thus, the stratigraphic record over the last 100 y is incomplete...

The distribution of As showed a northern part higher than the south and trends in the east (near Korea) a little higher than that in the west (near China). In detail, A section, which is near the northern YS, was the high content area, most of the above background value stations appeared there, and A1 station was the peak. The inshore areas near Jiangsu Province of China, as well as D section which faced the Yangtze River Estuary, were low content areas, with the average only half that of A section. This unique distribution pattern exposed the different characteristics between metalloid and metals, such as sorption, enrichment, transformation, and chemical reaction.
