Wrapped Subject

Since the belt is wrapped snugly around the material, it moves with the belt and is not subject to any form of internal movement except at feed and discharge. In addition, the belt can operate in many planes, with twists and turns to meet almost any layout condition within the fixed hmit of curvature placed on the loaded belt. It can convey and elevate with only a single drive multiple feed and discharge points are relatively easy to arrange. 

The market for PPVC film and sheet is only slightly less than for wire and cable insulation. Uses are as diverse as seepage barriers, factory doors, inflatables, baby pants, car trim, covering materials for book bindings and document cases and shower curtains. Patches are removed from the test subject immediately after the study replicate is completed. The Field Scientist should wear disposable surgical gloves to remove the patches and change gloves often to reduce the chance of cross-contamination of samples. Individual patches are wrapped in aluminum foil prior to placing them in a pre-labeled sealable plastic bag. Combined patches are placed exposed face to face, wrapped in aluminum foil, and stored frozen in sealable plastic bags. Patch samples may be placed in dry-ice in a cooler or directly into a freezer for storage.

In a study conducted by the Armour Research Foundation (Ref 41) a-Pb azide crystals wrapped in a thin A1 foil were subjected to fast and thermal neutrons in the heavy water pile at Argonne National Laboratory. With a thermal flux rate of about 10l4n/cm2/sec the crystals were irradiated for 8, 17 and 170 hours. The crystals decompd to a brown powder which was identified as Pb carbonate by X-ray techniques and infrared absorption spectra. From a mass spectrographic analysis of the isotopes of carbon and oxygen in the decompn products, it was determined that the mechanism of carbonate formation is a reaction with the atmosphere by broken surface bands produced by the neutrons.
