Wound covering bandage

PVA is attractive as matrix because it is water soluble, has excellent chemical resistance, and is biocompatible and biodegradable. PVA has been studied in terms of its biomedical applications, like tissue reconstruction and replacement, cell entrapment and drug delivery, soft contact lens materials, and wound covering bandages for bum victims (Siro and Plackett 2010).

Securely bandage or cover all open cuts, scrapes, and other wounds. 

Cuts. If the cut is a minor one, allow it to bleed for a few seconds, wash it with water, and then apply a prepared bandage with an antiseptic center. If a ready-made bandage is not available, apply an antiseptic from the first-aid cabinet and then cover the wound with a sterile 1- or 2-inch bandage. In case of profuse bleeding, wash the cut and apply a bandage, using pressure about four inches above and below the cut to diminish circulation and to aid clotting. Continuous pressure should not be maintained for more than five minutes. When a clot has formed, apply a mild antiseptic and call a physician. 

When the bark of a rubber tree is cut, a sticky white liquid oozes out. This is the same liquid found inside the stalks of dandelions and milkweed. The sticky material is latex, a suspension of rubber particles in water. Latex protects the tree after an injury, by covering the wound like a bandage.
