Band-Aid

My final recommendation to the customer was to put in a small RC snubber very close to the IC between its SW and GND pins. Typical values of this snubber are 470pF to 4.7nF and 10Q to 100Q. Note that since this Band-Aid fix is very layout and parasitic dependent, I usually ask the customer to try all the corner combinations first, such as 470pF/10Q, 470pF/100Q, and so on. The customer may also need to play with intermediate R and C values to optimize performance and not take too big a hit in efficiency in the process. I know the Japanese customer evaluated the snubber fix at his end and went into full production with it. [Pg.144]

Stop-leak compounds are effective in closing minor leaks. After leaks are closed, a reserve of stop-leak material in the coolant is usually necessary to reseal old leaks opened up by vibration, corrosion, etc., and also to seal any new leaks that may develop. Stop-leaks should be considered as adequate only for short term band-aid uses. As soon as practical, the leak should be properly repaired. [Pg.16]

My book The Zen of Magic Squares, Circles and Stars was my only one in which the publisher used a physical object, namely a plastic sliding puzzle embossed with the name of the book, to help promote the book. Simon Schuster used a similar gimmick when promoting their children s book Doctor Dan and the Bandage Man. The publisher decided to give away several Band-Aids with each copy. The publisher wired a friend at Johnson Johnson Please ship half-million Band-Aids immediately. The friend replied, Band-Aids on the way. What the hell happened to you 2 ... [Pg.190]

Along with over-the-counter health products such as Band-Aids, Lis-terine, Motrin, Nicoderm, Pepcid AC, Rogaine, Rolaids, Sudafed, Tylenol, and Visine, the company sells prescription drugs such as Haldol for schizophrenia, Topamax for epilepsy, Remicade for a variety of immune system diseases, and Zyrtec for allergies. [Pg.211]

Use of CPEs provides greater design flexibility in tailoring the delivery vehicle and results in a simple Band-Aid -like delivery device. This method almost completely eliminates the use of any external physical gadgetry and is therefore cost effective and... [Pg.251]

Band-Aid-like tape attached to the upper eyelid (or see again figure 3.3)— my sleep was shallow and unrefreshing, there was little REM, and my dreaming was pallid. [Pg.56]

From an appearance standpoint, the reservoir system resembles a large, Band-Aid with an exaggerated bubble and the matrix system resembles a mere flat piece of tape. These systems are illustrated in Figure 2. [Pg.279]

Nevertheless, it is precisely because the same procedures as the 1968 report [1] are still employed that this chapter (in the 1990 book of recommendations) is merely a "band-aid". Although the chapter starts off by acknowledging the features contributing to nomenclature complexity [5] ... [Pg.184]

I m not sure why it s a band-aid. This implies you are ignoring the problem, but you ve positioned yourself for an upswing, and since there is so much unknown, you at least have to throw resources at it and see what s happened. ... [Pg.41]

An approved fire extinguisher [the dry chemical (bicarbonate) type is preferred, but the CO2 type is satisfactory] should be mounted near at least one exit and refilled after every use, no matter how small. The laboratory should be arranged so as to provide two or more avenues of escape from any experimental setup in case of emergency. A first-aid kit containing Band-Aids, sterile gauze, adhesive tape, petroleum jelly, a mild antiseptic, sterile cotton swabs, tweezers, a set of sewing needles, a packet of razor blades, and a quick-reference first-aid manual will provide adequately for most minor emergencies. [Pg.699]

In some cases, reformatting the drive can solve the problems described in the preceding paragraph. In other cases, reformatting only brings the drive back to life for a short while. The bottom line is that read and write problems usually indicate that the drive is going south and should be replaced soon. Never expect a Band-Aid -type repair like reformatting to cover a major trauma problem like disk failure. [Pg.403]

In 1987 Dr. Ken Simmons tested rainbow trout in the waters of Whetstone Brook in MA. He discovered that when the pH was 5.97, the trout did not spawn. Along with other scientists, he started an experiment to reduce the acidity of the stream by adding calcium carbonate, or limestone, in measured amounts. The calcium carbonate reacts with acid but is not toxic to the environment and does not risk raising the pH too much. The experiment caused the pH to rise to 6.54 over a three-year period. As a result the population of trout in the treated area increased and their health improved. According to Dr. Simmons, this is not a permanent solution, but rather a band-aid approach to the problem of stream acidification by acid rain. [Pg.590]
