Wireless data acquisition

Wireless Device Devices, usually handheld, used for wireless data acquisition and communications. Examples include mobile phones and pagers. These devices can connect to intranet and internet services as well as facilitating dedicated communication links to host computer systems. [Defined for this book.]... [Pg.949]

The transition from desktop computing to embedded systems is associated with price, power and timing constrains. A special class embedded systems, termed distributed sensor networks (DSN), are characterized by extra requirements small size and sufficient battery lifetime. Distributed sensor networks can be alternatively labeled mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET). While the term DSN is associated with data acquisition applications, MANET emphasizes mobility and the lack of infrastructure. Distributed sensor networks can be scalable to thousands of nodes that cooperatively perform complex tasks. The interaction between the nodes is based on wireless communication [Kah 00, War 01, Hil 02], Wireless sensor networks (WSN) is yet another synonym. [Pg.177]

A wireless body area network is composed of small sensors attached or implanted in the body which establishes a communication link with the data-acquisition imit. This attribute allows the user to track required data over a long period. If biokinematic studies are concerned, there are different sensor possibilities for understanding and developing the geometry of the associated motion. Interconnection between the user and the environment is handled by a computer, a smartphone, or a PDA [68]. [Pg.546]

Data acquisition is performed remotely through wireless communication via radio frequency. [Pg.161]

Abstract— A Real-Time, Inexpensive Gait Analysis System that cost less than RM3,000 (= USD982) is proposed in this paper. The proposed system consists of subsystems such as wireless wearable accelerometer system, Custom-made force platform, data acquisition system with real-time computer data logging capability. Kinematics and kinetics parameters of human locomotion were collected and analysed by the system. The results collected were compared against published normative human gait data. Data collection was performed on 20 healthy test subjects without any reported gait-deflciency. [Pg.139]

Using CT scanners has some advantages like being widely available, having high spatial resolution and showing 3-D information about the prosthesis and the internal tissues of the stump, but the challenge is that they require the subjects to be positioned supine [13]. The use of photoelectric sensor reported to have some limitations because it is not wireless and a cable connects the sensor to data acquisition system. But it is said to be overcome by radiofrequency telemetry systems. [1]. [Pg.760]

The first step was the acquisition of the data to build the FM. It was made using an application developed using the Java-based Framework presented in [7], using a laptop computer (ASUS Notebook K50IN with an Atheros AR9285 Wireless... [Pg.163]
