Window shades

Flexible PVC resins and other dioctylphthalate-containing plastics and resins are used in a variety of industrial and domestic products plastisols for carpetback coating (EPA 1987b), film, wire, cables, and adhesives (HSDB 1995). Additional end-use products are automobile and furniture upholstery, wall coverings, window shades, garden hoses, shower curtains, tablecloths, rainwear, shoes, dolls, and toys (Mannsville Chemical Products Corporation 1989). [Pg.88]

From 1951 until 1976 when separate morning and afternoon tours were given in the main Museum at Winterthur, opaque window shades were used to darken totally those rooms not on tour. These shades were pulled by cords located at either end of the rod pocket and were concealed from view. The museum maintenance staff had to walk across... [Pg.251]

Imaginative applications of polymers to fenestration can also be used for flat-plate collectors. A transparent, coated polymeric glazing which transmits the solar spectrijm but returns the Infrared radiation effectively Increases the Insulation provided by the glazing, because the Infrared radiation generated Inside the structure Is retained. A polymeric film which changes from transparent to opaque when heated above a transition temperature acts as an automatic window shade which could help control stagnation temperatures [9]. [Pg.7]

Rovings are essentially untwisted bundles of fiberglass strands wound up in parallel on cylindrically shaped packages. They are used in open lay-up moldings, woven fabrics, rods, and tubes. Woven rovings are used for open lay and press moldings. Yams [1] consist of twisted yam bundles. Weaver yarns are used for electrical and aircraft laminates, insulating tape, window shades, and filtration applications. Their major use is in printed circuit boards. Chopped strand serves as a reinforcement in a variety of markets. For example, it is used to... [Pg.134]

A film of. colloidal silica on the surface of fibers, as in carpets, greatly reduces the pickup of dirt and leaves a cleaner appearance after vacuuming. It has been postulated that the silica forms a smooth adherent film to which soil particles do not cling, especially because it fills crevices in the fiber surface that would otherwise be filled with dark particles of dirt. Similar effects are reported on painted surfaces, plastic fabrics, window shades, and wallpaper (575). This type of use for colloidal silica was patented by Cogovan and Frederic (576). The advantage of using two hydrous colloidal metal oxides together is claimed by Florio and Rainard (577). Soluble aluminum phosphate is claimed to improve the adhesion of the silica to the fiber (578). [Pg.426]

As for interior materials, photocatalyst technologies are increasingly used with tiles, paints and window shades. In addition to the conventional sterilizing function, the easy-to-clean feature based on hydrophilicity makes these products less likely to be stained with greasy dirt in the kitchens or with soap scum in the bathrooms and also makes it easier to wash the dirt off with water. They have a wide spectrum of applications, ranging from pubhc lavatories, restaurant kitchens and clinical operation rooms to kitchens, bathrooms and washrooms at home. [Pg.35]
