White spots, skin

Contact of 33% H2O2 with the skin gives white spots which arc very painful. Rubber gloves should be worn and the face should be protected. [Pg.283]

Liver-disease patients often display white spots on the skin, which are the size of a lentil (sometimes as large as 0.5-1.0 cm in diameter). They can be detected chiefly in the area of the arms, on the back and on the buttocks. Upon cooling of the skin, white spots appear or become more pronounced, so that a cold-related vasocontrac-tion is assumed to be the causative factor. In the predilection area of the spider naevi, the white spotting of the skin can be deemed a preliminary stage of liver star within the round white spot, a central red dot is formed, from which the typical spider naevus develops with a white areola. [Pg.82]

The last-mentioned substance is found in the fruits of Psomlea coryfolia, (L.), family Fabaceae. Already in Papyrus Ebers (about 1550 BC) a treatment of vitihgo with the two plants was described when an extract of the fruits of Ammi majus was painted on the white spots of the skin, which was sunlit for some hours. A redness occurs, followed after... [Pg.83]

The exact origins of Rush s disease concept of Negritude were these. About 1798, white spots began to appear on the body of a Negro slave named Henry Moss. In three years, he was almost entirely white. Moss had the symptoms of an hereditary disease we now know as vitiligo. This condition, characterized by progressive loss of skin pigmentation, occurs in both white and colored people. In the United States, approximately one person in a hundred suffers from it. [Pg.154]

This secret was the names and identity of the source of the drug, the key to heaven. The source of the drug It was the Sacred Mushroom. The fungus recognized today as the Amanita Muscaria, or Fly-Agaric, had been known from the beginning of history. Beneath the skin of its characteristic red and white-spotted cap, there is concealed a powerful hallucinatory poison. [Pg.5]

Traditional use The powdered tuber is used to treat scorpion and poisonous snake bites and is mixed with honey to treat fungal skin diseases and white spots on the skin of the neck. Bread made with tuber powder and sesame oil is prescribed (to be eaten) to treat hemorrhoids (Khahnatov 1964). [Pg.49]

IVaditional use A powder of roasted and ground fruits mixed with honey is used in folk medicine to dissolve renal and cystic stones and to treat skin diseases (for white spots on the skin). The powdered mber is applied to mouth injuries and for reddening of the tongue (Khatmatov 1964). [Pg.60]

Other studies have begun to explore the benefits of topical tretinoin therapy in patients with predominantly pigmentary manifestations of photoaging. Topical tretinoin has been shown to have beneficial effects in the treatment of hyper-pigmentation such as liver spots (also termed actinic lentigines) in white persons (skin types I and II) [53]. Griffiths et al. [54] conducted a... [Pg.270]

Burns produced by phosphorus are very dangerous If white phosphorus gets on your skin, immediately remove it and wash the burnt spot with a 2% silver nitrate, copper sulphate, or potassium permanganate solution. After carrying out experiments with white or red phosphorus, immerse the laboratory ware for some time in a 10% copper sulphate solution, after which wash it in the usual way. [Pg.148]

Throughout the Bible, one finds reference to the condition of leprosy, such as that described in Leviticus. [I]s there any flesh in the skin of which there is a burn by fire, and the quick flesh of the burn becomes a bright spot, reddish white or white,...and if the hair in the bright spot is turned white, and it appears deeper than the skin, it is leprosy broken out in the burn. ... [Pg.1742]

Aliphatic diisocyanates can have strong, adverse skin irritation effects and two are well known for this problem, namely dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate (H12MDI) (Desmodur W by Bayer) and hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI). Usually care in handling and good hygiene prevents undue problems. Occasionally a more serious effect has been observed in one instance a chemical worker exposed her face to the hot vapour of dicyclohexylmethane diisocyanate and within 24 h her head had swollen to 20% of its original size and characteristic red spots with a white centre were present over the exposed area. Recovery took place slowly over a period of 3 weeks with cortisone-type ointment treatments. Her central nervous system was also affected and took some months to become normal. This was a very unusual and unique incident and is recorded to show that occasionally the unexpected human response can occur with diisocyanates. [Pg.414]
