Wax Moldings

Electroforrning, which is used in the production of art objects or jewelry is a combination of electroless plating and electro deposition. A wax mold of the object to be produced is made conductive by electroless gold plating, a thick layer of gold or gold alloy is then electrodeposited and, finally, the wax is removed by melting (134).

This technology is also called fusible core molding, soluble core technology (SCT), lost-wax molding, loss core molding, etc. This technique is a take off and similar to the lost wax molding process used...

The FRD was set at the range of 37-39 kg/m to ensure the resulted molded foam is in the range of 42-45 kg/m The above procedures were repeated and the mixmre was poured into a pre-waxed mold, covered and screwed tight. The PU was demolded after 30 min. The molded density was calculated using Equation (2). 

It is a safe product soluble in a water base, but insoluble in styrene and used over waxed molds.

In hand lay-up of thermosets, fillers are not normally used but can be added to modify viscosity, add some stiOhess and reduce cost. A 10 to 20 mil thick gel coat (unreinforced hard surfacing resin, sometimes pigmented) is applied to a waxed mold and is allowed to partially cure to a rubbery state. Promoted and catalyzed resin mix is then applied to the gel coat by brush or spr at about 3 fluid ounces per sqare foot. Reinforcement in the form of a sheet of fibreglass is then pressed into the wet resin, and entrapped air is removed with a disc roller. 

Cleaning, or removal of contamination, including process oils, dirt, waxes, mold release agent, and exuded plasticizer, is an important change that occurs as a result of surface treatment. Methods involving chemicals such as solvent cleaning and etching, if not properly used, can leave behind a residue that may interfere with adhesive bond formation. Clean surfaces must be protected because of rapid reacquisition of contamination from the ambient atmosphere.
