Water-based slurry

Water-in-od emulsion explosives have been made as typified by a formulation containing 20% water, 12% oil, 2% microspheres, 1% emulsifier, and 65% ammonium nitrate. The micro droplets of an emulsion explosive offer the advantage of intimate contact between fuel and oxidizer, and tend to equal or outperform conventional water-based slurries. [Pg.24]

TNT. Aluminium is also used in some commercial blasting explosives, particularly in water-based slurry explosives, which contain a high percentage of ammonium nitrate. [Pg.99]

Hydrocarbon slurries were analyzed by filtration on a tared micropore polymer funnel, using a pentane wash. Water based slurries were analyzed by oven evaporation. Control tests using slurries of known weight percent gave an absolute accuracy within 0.1 for both methods. [Pg.112]

Figure 16.29 shows the removal rate of copper under different polishing conditions. Regardless of the abrasive type, removal rates lower than 100 nm/ min were observed in DI water based slurries. The low copper removal rates are attributed to the purely mechanical action of the abrasive particles. [Pg.494]

Without significant chemical reactions (in DI water based slurries), the friction and adhesion forces are well correlated with the magnitude of removal rates. For example, four times higher removal rate as well as friction force was observed for alumina-based DI water slurry than that for silica. [Pg.495]

The amount of carboxylic anhydride used for modification of A1(OH)3 determines the sedimentation rate of filler particles and the increase in water-based slurry viscosity. A limiting value of viscosity is attained at relatively low levels of modifier. This amount of modifier is sufficient to react with the available sites on the A1(OH)3 providing conditions for the breakdown of the aggregates and a separation of individual particles. Since the reaction decreases particle-particle interaction these processes are likely to occur. The sedimentation volume curve can be explained in the same way. [Pg.327]

Electromagnetic flowmeters are mainly applied to single-phase conducting fluids, for example liquid metals, water-based industrial liquids, and blood. However, they are also being used to measure solid/liquid flows such as water-based slurries and sludge as long as conductivity of the liquid medium exceeds 50 microsiemens per centimeter (pS/cm). Output signals from an EM flowmeter are basically proportional to the volumetric flow rate, which is applicable to solid/liquid flows only if the solids particles are uniformly distributed in the liquid. Moreover, to obtain the mass flow rate of a solid/liquid flow, the EM flowmeter requires other means to measure solids concentration. [Pg.214]

Preparing the slurry. The slurry may contain up to 35vol% of liquid. Water-based slurries containing a latex binder are often used, although for some powder formulations an organic based slurry is required. [Pg.568]

A chopped carbon fiber can be used as reinforcement, but in this form, it will be neeessary to form a mixture or slurry with the glass and the staple length must be < 3 mm, as otherwise, it will be hard to dissipate. When subjected to pressure in the consolidation process, there will be some fiber flow resulting in a more planar array. Continuous fiber can be adapted to more automated processes such as filament winding [83]. If a water based slurry proeess is used, it would be expected that a surface treated fiber should wet out more readily by achieving more efficient interfilament penetration of the matrix. [Pg.594]

The concentration of a water-based slurry sample is to be found by drying the slurry in an oven. Determine the slurry weight concentration given the following data ... [Pg.115]

In addition to liquid anaerobics, threadlockers are supplied in a solid form that can be pre-applied to a fastener. In these systems, the anaerobic adhesives or a catalyst are microencapsulated in a thin shell. A typical water-based slurry for applying such a system to fasteners consists of a water-soluble binder or emulsion, a dispersed anaerobic adhesive, and separate microcapsules of a peroxide and a transition metal salt. The slurry is applied to fasteners by the customer or a converter and is dry to touch after removal of the water. This preapplied coating remains stable until a nut is applied to the fastener when the shearing action of engagement breaks the microcapsules and the adhesive cures, locking the fastener. [Pg.13]
