Water-based casting

Dryings of Castings and Other Products. The use of microwaves in the curing and drying of foundry cores is weU estabhshed (185). The best example is the use of microwaves for drying water-based core washes at 2450 MHz with up to 150 kW. These apphcations have not, however, found apphcation in manufacturing. Many similar drying apphcations have been examined (186,187). [Pg.346]

Explosives Sensitivity Data. Card-gap and projectile sensitivity, data are presented by Watson (Ref 1) for a wide variety of expl compns tested at the USBurMines laboratories in more or less standard test geometries. The results of both tests are in good agreement in that they provide the same sensitivity ordering fbr different subclasses of expls. Least sensitive were homogeneous liquids that did not exhibit a tendency, to undergo low-velocity detonation, AN-FO (Ammonium Nitrate-Fuel Oil), and most cast military expls. Of intermediate sensitivity were pressed and powdered military expls, cast Pentolite, permissible and nonpetmissible water-based expls, and one commercial two-component expl. The most sensitive were permissible and nonpermissible Dynamites and expls susceptible to low-velocity detonations Refs I) R.W. In the dry process the dielectric powder is formed into either an organic- or water-based slip and tape-cast (see Section 3.6.6) to form a continuous strip. The... [Pg.264]

Most of PVA/CNT composites are processed under the form of films. Generally, films are casted and dried from water-based PVA and nanotube dispersions. Different types of water-based dispersions have been used. Carbon nanotubes come from various production sources and can be covalently functionalized. The PVA molecular weight and hydrolysis rate can also be varied as well as the nanotube fraction. This is why comparisons between all the contributions in the literature can sometimes be difficult. Nevertheless some general and important features can still be deduced from all the studies reported on this topic. [Pg.320]

Conventional water based or alcohol based core washes can be used to treat the surface of the cores. This type of treatment is in some cases to improve the surface of the metal casting or the hardness and shelf life of the core. Shelf life is the period of time after making for which the sand core is useful. [Pg.212]

Water-based epoxy primers are ideal for damp porous substrates, as such primers will penetrate to an adequate depth to ensure good adhesion and produce a sound surface for bonding. Emulsifiable resins and hardeners are available, and the better systems deactivate the emulsifier system during cure to ensure that the cured system is not unduly water sensitive (Section VI.A). Solventless epoxy primers are used for bonding new concrete to existing concrete. Polyamide hardeners are preferred because of their ability to cure satisfactorily in the presence of water. Accelerators and diluents may be added, but fillers are generally omitted. The primer is applied to the existing concrete, and the fresh concrete cast before the resin has set (Section VI.B). [Pg.819]
