Founded as the National Asbestos Council, EIA is a resource for professionals in the management and control of health hazards to occupants of buildings, facilities, and industrial sites. It de >elops and disseminates information about asbestos, lead based paint hazards, underground storage tanks (USTs), indoor air quality, solid and hazardous waste. 

There are many common misconceptions about vinyl. For example, the idea that vinyl is not recycled is untrue. Industrial scrap vinyl has been recycled for years, but in more recent years, post-consumer vinyl recycling is growing, too, with about 3.25 x 103 tons (6.5 x 106 lb) of post-consumer vinyl (primarily botdes) being recycled in the 1990s. When the Council for Solid Waste Solutions (now the American Plastics Council) conducted a nationwide survey in 1991, it found that there were an estimated 1100 municipal recycling programs in place or planned in the United States that include vinyl.

According to the Secondary Materials and Recycled Textiles Association (SMART) and the Council for Textile Recycling [9, 10], more than 1000 businesses and organizations employing many tens of thousands of workers divert some 2 million tons of textile waste from the solid waste stream. Textile waste can be classified as either preconsumer or postconsumer. Preconsumer textile waste consists of by-product materials from the textile, fiber, and cotton industries. Each year 750,000 tons of this waste is recycled into raw materials for the automotive, furniture, mattress, coarse yam, home furnishings, paper, and other industries. Approximately 75% of the preconsumer textile waste is recycled.
