Voluntary Safety and Health Program Management Guidelines

In January 1989 [OSHA] pubhshed voluntary. Safety and Health Program Management Guidelines, which are recommended to aU employers as a foundation for their safety and health programs and as a framework for their ergonomics programs.

To assist employers and employees in developing effective safety and health systems, OSHA published recommended Safety and Health Program Management Guidelines, (Federal Register 54(18) 3908-3916, January 26, 1989). These voluntary guidelines can be applied to all worksites covered by OSHA. 

Safety and Health Management Guidelines Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP). 

OSHA s Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) contains a policies and procedures manual that employers may find helpful when implementing a safety and health management system. The criteria to obtain VPP status are stringent and require an onsite evaluation by a team of OSHA representatives. But, the guidelines can serve as a reference document for any employer simply wishing to enhance their safety and health system... 

If an organization s occupational health and safety management system meets the requirements of ZIO, its system will surpass the provisions in the standards and guidelines reviewed and, in particular, exceed the certification requirements for 18001 and for OSHA s Voluntary Protection Program.
