Visual description

Museums such as the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and many other museums across the globe, display a variety of artifacts from past cultures. Tools, weapons, utensils, fabrics, and bones provide a rich visual description of how people used to live and die. By visiting a museum, a person can take a step back in time and get a sense of the problems faced by people who came before, as well as the tools and technology by which these people attempted to solve these problems. 

Color Change. Tables I through IV summarize the color change data, obtained by comparison with an untreated/unexposed control sample, for the dyed cotton and wool fabrics exposed to CC14, dichlorvos, petroleum distillate, and boric acid respectively. Each table reports the total color difference at 4, 8, and 160 weeks duration after initial treatment. Also reported is a visual description of the perceived color change from the untreated control after 160 weeks.

The script is essentially the elaboration of a treatment or step outline, including visual description and dialogue. The script should always be presented in master scene format (an example of master scene format is given later in this chapter). The key controversy about script format is whether to include short descriptions in the scenes. We recommend omitting them. The master scene format allows readers of the script to visualize the story more readily than if they were stopping to read technical descriptions in the body of the script. 

On the left-hand side, visual descriptions of flow patterns and other types of descriptions of the flow patterns are helpful and important in establishing the effect of mixing variables on these criteria. In general, they are characterized by a requirement for high pumping capacity rather than fluid shear rate, and studies to optimize the pumping capacity of the impellers relative to power consumption are fruitful. 

You will often see workflows in which the simple sequence pattern runs into a task that has multiple lines downstream. This is an example where a clear understanding of workflow patterns is useful. This visual description might represent a parallel split, in which data clone themselves and pass to two or more parallel or independent sets of processes (fig. 19.3B). Alternatively, it might represent an exclusive choice, in which the data pass to just one of a number of downstream options (fig. 19.3C). Clearly, these are very different behaviors, and indeed, they are described by different patterns.

It should be noted that these methods characterise the extent of clustering by employing various parameters, but it can be difficult to relate these to a visual description of the developing microstructure. 

Fractography is the visualization, description, and interpretation of a fracture or a fracture surface, often in order to establish structure-property relationships. Artifact-free visualization and as accurate a description as possible are a prerequisite for interpreting a fracture surface and using it to reveal information about material properties, such as composition, deformation under load, and the failure mechanism.

This difficulty, which appears in the classical theory, disappears when quantum-mechanics is employed. Since it does not only appear in a two-centre problem, but also for much simpler problems, those with one degree of freedom, we will study the quantum-theoretical behaviour with the help of a one-dimensional example. The essential thing is clearly that the potential function U (x) can assume certain values more than twice, others only twice, so that the number of zero points of V x) — W can change suddenly by changing one parameter. We will use Schrodinger s method of wave mechanics, since this allows a visual description of the stationary states through the eigenfunctions. 

VSM creates a visual description of the value stream by looking at the entire system, including all inputs, the process, and all outputs. VSM shows the linkages that exist throughout the system and challenges the current state of all activities. It identifies the sources of non-value-added waste that is identified in the value stream.
