Uses Technical diquat dibromide is more than 95% pure and forms white to yellow crystals. It is used to desiccate potato vines and seed crops, to control flowering of sugarcane, and for industrial and aquatic weed control. It is not residual (i.e., it does not leave any trace of herbicide on or in plants, soil, or water). Diquat dibromide is a nonselective, quick-acting herbicide and plant growth regulator, causing injury only to the parts of the plant to which it is applied. Diquat dibromide is referred to as a desiccant because it causes a leaf or entire plant to dry out quickly.

Biogenic amines (BAs), as spermine, spermidine and cadaverine, are synthesized in several parts of the vine, such as berries, seeds and leaves, with growth-regulating roles, while histamine, tyramine and 1-methylhistamine can be present just in trace amounts (Adams et al., 1990 Radler and Fath, 1991 Geny et al., 1997 Nicolini et al., 2003). BAs were instead found in significant amounts in fermented foods and beverages, such as cheeses, beer and fish and meat products (Stratton et al., 1991 Shalaby, 1996). They were also found in wine, the most abundant being histamine, tyramine, putrescine and phenylethylamine (Radler and Fath, 1991 Lehtonen, 1996). 

Uses Growth regulator used to control the sprouting of potatoes and onions and to prevent sucker development on tobacco, fruits, ornamentals, vines, field crops and in forestry. Also used to control insects in warehouses, storerooms, empty sacks and in animal and poultiy houses.
