Vine weevils

Parasitio, miorosoopio roundworms, available as biologieal eontrol agents (see p.97) for slugs and vine weevil these are multiplying within the body eavity of a vine weevil. Completely harmless to non-target organisms. 

Grow the green manure mustard on the area. It is said to speed up the life cycle. Biological control The nematode used for vine weevil (q.v.) may have some effect against wireworms.

Leaves with notched edges. Cause Black vine weevils. The wingless. Vs", brownish black adults feed on the leaves and bark and can kill branches. See the opposite page for an illustration of this pest. To control them, try spreading a dropcloth around your plants, then shaking the plants the adults will drop and can be removed and destroyed. Spray leaves several times with pyrethrin for major infestations. The small, curved, white grubs of these weevils feed on the roots drench the soil around... 

B.t. var. ismelensis (BTI) attacks larvae of blackflies, fungus gnats, and mosquitoes when applied to standing water where these pests reproduce. B.t. var. san diego (BTSD) controls certain leaf-feeding beetles, including black vine weevils, boll weevils, Colorado potato beetles, and elm leaf beetles. 

In turf and ornamentals, fipronil is extremely effective as a granular formulation against larvae of black vine weevils [Otiorhynchus sulcatus) in containerized ornamentals [102] and against many Orthopteran insects, including mole crickets (Scapteriscus spp.) [103] in turf ss. Fipronil gives excellent control of Japanese beetle (PopiMa japonicd) when apphed as a soil drench or injection to field-grown ornamental trees. 

The main pests are vine weevil, blossom weevil, spider mites, tarsonemid mite, caterpillars, capsids and aphids. Slugs can be a problem under plastic mulching.
