Vertical rotary molds also employ multiple molds on a turret but rotate in a vertical plane. As each mold reaches the die exit, it grasps the parison and closes. Because of the vertical spacing between molds, intermittent extmder action is not required. Vertical wheels are used commercially for high volume apphcations.

Another approach to increase production is to use one parison extra long to cover two or more cavities located vertically in the mold. In fact, one parison can extend the multiparison with two or more vertical cavities. AH that is required is a machine with the capacity to handle the output from the extruder to the clamping capability. The experiments were conducted on a vertical rotary surface grinder with a 5.5 kW motor spindle. The feed can be continuously adjusted within a range. The workpieces were made from intered sintered reaction-bonded silicon nitride (SRBSN) and cast-and-sintered silicon nitride (Si3N4). The grain size was between 0.3 and 0.4 pm for SRBSN and between 0.6 and 0.8 pm for SiaN4. Cast-iron fiber-bonded diamond wheels of 200 mm diameter were used. A Noritake AFG-M grinding fluid at a rate of 20-30 L/min was used as electrolytic fluid. 

In order to obtain a uniform wall thickness for complex shaped containers, it is necessary to be able to control the thickness of the parison as it extrudes. Wall thickness control is achieved by varying the die gap as the parison is extruded. There are a variety of different arrangements for the blowing step of the process. These include the use of single dies with multiple molds (e.g., vertical rotary wheel), and multiple dies with multiple wheels. For some examples, refer to the illustrations in Figures 2 through 4.
