Venting commissioning

Manufacmrer s shipping plugs must be removed from the bonnet vent holes before a new valve is commissioned. 

For a surface condenser to work properly, noncondensable vapors must be sucked out of llie shell side. This is done with a two-stage jet system, as shown in Fig. 18.3. When I was first commissioned the jets, they were unable to pull a good vacuum. Moreover, water periodically blew out of the atmospheric vent. I found, after considerable investigation, that the condensate drain line from the final condenser was plugged. 

A %-in. connection is provided on the pump discharge, upstream of the block and check valves, and it is connected to the nearest flare header to vent fuel gas and/or hydrocarbon vapor during commissioning. A double block and bleed are provided on the discharge to avoid problems of freezing in cryogenic service. 

Refinery Hi. point vent on a distillatian colunm was left op i, causing product loss for an entire week. Ensure adequate closure of all high-point vents following commissioning.

Failure to remove excess reaction ECH from the system prior to condensate addition was due to the absence of cooling water flow to the ECH/water condenser. The cooling water system for the condenser had not been commissioned after the plant shutdown, and was isolated both at a manually operated valve and at a valve operated via the plant computer. The lack of condensing capacity resulted in high vapour flows to vent, with a consequent increased back-pressure on the reactor which caused a reduced evaporation rate. 

Installation of the disassembling area with the facilities of the remote controlled dismantling, connecting the disassembling area to the outer reactor vessel, commissioning of auxiliary systems (e.g. vent systems)...
