Flame Front Diverter A device that opens in response to the pressure wave preceding the flame front of the deflagration, venting the flame front and pressure wave. [Pg.201]

In deep water, it is common to find kick fluids trapped above the blowout preventer stack when the well is shut in. These fluids must be vented through the diverter system. [Pg.1372]

Figure 4-501 shows a typical diverter system setup. The components of the system are the annular preventer, vent lines, the control system, and the conductor or structural casing. [Pg.1372]

The Minerals Management Service requires a minimum 6-in.-diameter diverter vent line, but many operators are now using as large as 12-in.-diameter vent lines. [Pg.1373]

The new diverter was built according to the description presented in Section 13.1, and it was installed in the extruder. Immediately upon startup of the machine, resin flow from the vent did not occur. Thus, resin that expanded outside of the barrel cylinder at the entry of the vent opening was tucked back into the barrel cylinder. Based on the cost savings for the elimination of the vent flow and the installed cost of the diverter, the payback time was estimated at 18 days. [Pg.619]

The next step is to use compression fittings to hook the pump outlet to the flush valve with a length of 0.02-in i.d. tubing. The flush valve is a small needle valve used to prime the pump that allows us to divert solvent away from the column when rapidly flushing the pump to atmospheric pressure. Open the valve and the line is vented to the atmosphere. This removes the back-pressure from the column, a major obstacle when trying to push solvent into a plumbed system. [Pg.29]

Thus with the solvent flow by-passing the load loop, sample can be injected from a syringe onto the loop, displacing any residual solvent out of the vent. On switching the valve clockwise to the alternative inject position, the solvent stream is diverted through the load loop, introducing the sample onto the column (Fig. 11.25). About half of the flue gas from the regenerator is used for transporting the catalyst, about 5 % is diverted to an elutriator for removal of catalyst fines, and the remainder is vented directly to the atmosphere. The portion used for catalyst transfer passes through a pressure controller into the... [Pg.312]

Once the liquid phase is separated from the gas, it is diverted to impinge on the wall of a glass vessel like a simple test tube or collection bottle. The liquid runs down the wall while the gas exits the top. The carbon dioxide expands 500 times. Under typical operating conditions, 25-30 L/min of gas exits out the top of the test tube or bottle. The waste gas is diverted through a waste collection container and then vented outside. A small amount of the modifier, like methanol, is present in this waste stream (due to the vapor pressure of the compound). As with the cyclone separator, the user is never exposed to the effluent of the chromatograph. [Pg.517]

Because there are no reasonable methods for mitigating risk following the occurrence of a BLEVE, all practical measures should be taken to prevent the causes of a BLEVE. This could include fixed water-spray systems over process vessels containing flammable liquids or which could be exposed to flammable-liquid fire, ensuring that relief devices do not direct vented flammable vapors onto the container, systems for diverting spilled flammable liquid to locations that would not expose process vessels, and pubhc-address systems to warn persons to evacuate locations where loss of process control could lead to a BLEVE [14]. [Pg.1456]

Before steaming is commenced, the water side of condensers and coolers should be drained and vented. Instruments that may be damaged by steam need to be isolated. Pumps whose seals may be sensitive to heat need to be bypassed. Relief valves that may discharge air during steaming should be diverted away from the flare system. [Pg.304]
