The first online TLC-MS attempt in the field of triterpenoids was done only in 2005 in the study of the photo-oxidation of natural di- and triterpenoid resins used as paint varnishes [10], The resinous samples were applied onto a cellulose-coated TLC plate, which afterward was subjected to direct MALDI-TOF-MS analysis without any development. The plates were only sprayed with a saturated ethanol solution of 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid as matrix to assist the ionization of compounds. Triterpenoids were observed as protonated molecules or as sodium clusters. Dammaradienone, dammaradienol, nor-a-amyrone, and dammarenolic, oleanonic, and ursonic acid were detected in dammar resin moronic acid, masticadienonic acid, and 3-0-acetyl-3-epi(iso)masticadienonic acid were found in mastic resin and diterpenoid abietane and pimarane acids were present in colophony. The induced aging process produced oxidized triterpenoids, which were observed in the MS spectra... [Pg.315]

From the screening of 41 microorganisms sfrains, only one Aspergillus flavus ATCC 9170) was able to transform ursolic acid, resulting in fhe formation of ursonic acid (3-oxo-ursolic acid, 103) in low 5tield [81]. [Pg.697]

Nocardia strains were used by Leipold et al. [86] to generate the following ursolic acid derivatives (Figure 28.35) Nocardia sp. 45077 synthesized ursonic acid (103) and 3-oxoursa-l,12-dien-28-oic acid (104). Nocardia sp. 46002 produced only ursonic acid and Nocardia sp. 43069 showed no metabolism at all. Nocardia sp. NRRL 5646 (previously used for the methylation of lupane and olean families PTs [42,43]), Nocardia sp. 44822, and Nocardia sp. 44000 generated ursolic acid methyl ester (105), ursonic acid (103) and its methyl ester (106), and 3-oxoursa-l,12-dien-28-oic acid (104) and its me yl ester (107). [Pg.699]

Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (bearberry) contains a steroid, sitosterol, and triterpenoids, such as amyrin, betulinic acid, lupeol, oleanolic acid, taraxenol, ursolic acid, and uvaol. The main constituent is a glucoside called arbutin. Other constituents are methylarbutin, ericolin, ursone, gallic acid, and ellagic acid. [Pg.1235]

New natural products include ursonic aldehyde (3-oxours-12-en-28-al) from Dragon s Blood, a resin from Daemonorops draco (Palmae),135 dulcioic acid (168) from Scoparia dulcis (Scrophulariaceae),136 rubifolic acid (169) from Rubia cor-difolia (Rubiaceae),137 esculentic acid (2a,3a,23-trihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid)... [Pg.230]
