Removal using carbon bed adsorbers is very satisfactory since toluene is stable and does not need drying when the bed is regenerated using steam, unless the recovered toluene is to be used for an unusual purpose, e.g. urethane paint. 

Fourier transform infrared microspectroscopy is applied for the characterisation of a coated interface and a polymer blend. The coated sample investigated is prepared by coating a urethane paint on an ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymer whose ethyl-ester group is partially hydrolysed (EAA/EEA). It is demonstrated that a mixed phase is formed along the coated interface between the paint and the EAA/EEA. Interaction between molecules of the urethane paint and the EAA/EEA is observed. The pressurized hydrolysis technology is available for all TP bumpers of Toyota cars, which are painted with acrylic-melamine resin or alkyd-melamine resin. However, the recovered bumpers contain some repaired ones which are repainted with urethane paint film. The pressurized hydrolysis technology is not available for the urethane paint film because this film is not hydrolyzable with water vapor in such conditions. To maintain the high performance of the recycled material, the repaired bumper must be sorted from the recovered TP bumpers. Considering the difference of the chemical reaction of the paint films with dye agents, a paint film dyeing method was develop>ed. A nonrepaired bumper which is painted with acrylic- or alkyd-melamine resin becomes red and fluorescent color when a mixture of dye agent of Acid Red 52 and a solvent of lactic acid are applied. Ethylene-propylene rubbers (EP) have low total surface energies with small polar components. As would be expected, the adhesion of paints and adhesives to untreated EP is poor. To achieve good adhesion to EP, the introduction of suitable functional groups is necessary unless a diffusion mechanism can operate. Bragole [26] found that UV treatment of EPDM coated with a thin layer of benzophenone resulted in large increases in the adhesion of acrylic, epoxy and urethane paints to the polymer. 

The hydroxyl group forms polyester and polyurethane polymers in a variety of reactions (50). In the form of foamed polyurethane rubber, polymerized castor oil enjoys wide use as seat cushions, for example, as well as urethane paints, etc.

In addition, hydrophobically modified ethoxylated urethanes (HEUR) are prepared by hydrophobe capping of urethane prepolymers. Comb, block and star HEUR s have been synthesized. (Schemes 1.2-1.4) [27]. Such polymers are very effective associative thickeners for urethane paints and coatings.
