ABB Lummus Crest Inc. and Unocal Corp. have Hcensed a benzene alkylation process usiag a proprietary zeoHte catalyst. Unlike the Mobil-Badger process, the Unocal-Lummus process is suitable for either ethylbenzene or cumene manufacture (27,28). 

BNL, Halliburton Energy Services, and Unocal Corp. have developed cements suitable for geothermal wells with this formulation [11]. The brand name of this cement is ThermaLock. This cement was tested successfully in Unocal s geothermal well in Sumatra, Indonesia, and its first use has been reported by Japan Petroleum Exploration Company for completion of geothermal wells in Kyushu, Japan.

Molycorp, a wholly owned subsidiary of Unocal Corp., was the only company to mine rare earth minerals in the United States in 2002. The rare-earth separation plant operations stopped in 2003. Molycorp mined bastnasite, a rare earth fluorocarbonate mineral, as a primary product at Mountain Pass, California. The value of domestic ore production was estimated at 31 million in 2002 the estimated value of refined rare earth minerals was more than 1 billion. The end uses for rare earth products in 2000 were as follows automotive catalytic, 22 percent glass polishing and ceramics, 39 percent permanent magnets, 16 percent petroleum refining catalysts, 12 percent metallurgical additives and alloys, 9 percent rare earth phosphors for lighting, televisions, computer monitors, radar, and x-ray intensifying film, 1 percent, and miscellaneous,...

Introduction. This process, which was developed by the Union Oil Company of California (now Unocal Corporation) and The Parsons Corp., utilizes a proprietary catalyst (Selectox 33) for the oxidation of relatively low concentrations of hydrogen sulfide to elemental sulfur in a one-step operation. Three applications of the process are shown in Figure 8-24.
