Ischaemic colitis After 19 weeks of treatment with pegylated IFNa-2a and ribavirin for chronic hepatitis C genotype lb, a 48-year-old woman developed severe abdominal pain with haematochezia. CT, colonoscopy and colonic mucosal biopsy led to a diagnosis of ischaemic colitis. After discontinuation of the IFN-ribavirin therapy, the symptoms subsided and mucosal ulceration improved. A munber of cases of ischaemic colihs during IFN therapy have been reported, all of which involve the descending colon [46 ].

The plant is used to treat leprosy the roots are used to heal ulcers and to cure ringworm infection. A decoction of the leaves is drunk to treat tuberculosis and to improve general weakness. In Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, an infusion of the bark is used to correct nervous affections. Adverse effects, which include gastritis, peptic ulcer, hypertension, kidney failure, delirium, bleeding diathesis and oedema of the lower extremities, are not uncommon. Most cases of knee arthritis can improve with the right kind of exercise of the thigh muscles, better personally adjusted walking aids and shoe implants can also be of help. 

Similarly to carotenoids, flavonoids also show considerable biological activity. Their beneficial effect in cancer and heart diseases has been proven many times [86-89], It has further been established that flavonoids improve cardiovascular remodelling and vascular function in NO-deficient hypertension [90], Moreover, flavonoid intake reduces the risk of chronic diseases [91], and beneficially influences inflammations [92], and ulcer formation [93,94],... 

Improvements in medical treatments have been substantial, so much so that benefits of recently introduced medicines over existing ones are smaller than when these standard treatments were originally developed and compared with remedies that existed then. The mean difference in some clinical efficacy endpoints between treatments maybe less than 20%. This requires a large population sample in clinical trials in order to achieve sufficient power to detect a difference, if it really exists, with confidence. Most medical conditions (for instance, peptic ulcers) present rather infrequently at any single hospital centre and it would therefore be impossible for a single... 

Skin rash In controlled clinical trials, 26% of patients treated with 600 mg efavirenz experienced new onset skin rash compared with 17% of patients treated in control groups. Rash associated with blistering, moist desquamation, or ulceration occurred in 0.9% of patients treated with efavirenz. The incidence of Grade 4 rash in patients treated with efavirenz in all studies and expanded access was 0.1%. The median time to onset of rash in adults was 11 days and the median duration, 16 days. Appropriate antihistamines or corticosteroids may improve the tolerability and hasten the resolution of rash. 

For debridement of necrotic tissue and liquefication of slough in acute and chronic lesions such as pressure ulcers, varicose, diabetic, and decubitus ulcers, burns, postoperative wounds, pilonidal cyst wounds, carbuncles, and miscellaneous traumatic or infected wounds. Also stimulates vascular bed activity to improve epithelization. 

Mann 3 examined the records of 84 men described as suffering from "delayed mustard gas keratitis." This group had been treated at the Contact Lenses Clinic at Moorfields, England. The eye injuries were described as "typical mustard gas scars with corneal degeneration." Mann found a low incidence of onset of trouble in the early postwar years, with a sharp rise in 1931 and peaks in 1934 and 1937 (Figure 4-1). Most, 19-23 yr old when gassed, were about 33-37 when the eye trouble peaked. The onset of symptoms was commonly provoked by minor eye injuries and followed by ulcers that tended to recur spontaneously and cause steady diminution in visual acuity. These men were all fitted with contact lenses. About half were able to wear them with improved vision the others varied from partial success to total failure. Even those helped most, however, suffered slow deterioration of visual acuity.
