High elongations

LOY is characterized by low spinning tension, mostiy rheological effects, Httie orientation, amorphous stmcture, low tensde strength, and high elongation. The spun filament must be drawn, usually three to six times its initial length, and heat-treated before it develops useful properties. Nearly all PET staple is spun this way. [Pg.330]

Process details may be summarized powder sizes are fine (usually < 20 Ilm) low (generally < 69 MPa (10,000 psi)) injection pressure low (ca I49°C) mol ding temperature shrinkage (molded part to finished size) typically 20% final part densities are usually 95—98% + of maximum pore-free density and ductility is exceptionally high, elongation values are > 30%. [Pg.185]

Copolymerisation also affects morphology under other crystallisation conditions. Copolymers ia the form of cast or molded sheets are much more transparent because of the small spheruHte size. In extreme cases, crystallinity cannot be detected optically, but its effect on mechanical properties is pronounced. Before crystallisation, films are soft and mbbery, with low modulus and high elongation. After crystallisation, they are leathery and tough, with higher modulus and lower elongation. [Pg.432]

Typically, ozone cracking initiates at sites of high stress (flaws) on the mbber surface. Thus, in general, mbber articles should be designed to rninirnize potential sites of high elongation such as raised lettering. Similarly, the use of clean molds helps to reduce the incidence of surface flaws. [Pg.236]

Syndiotactic Polybutadiene. Syndiotactic polybutadiene is a unique material that combines the properties of plastic and mbber. It melts at high (150—220°C) temperatures, depending on the degree of crystallinity in the sample, and it can be molded into thin films that are flexible and have high elongation. The unique feature of this plastic-like material is that it can be blended with natural mbber. 1,4-Polybutadiene and the resulting blends exhibit a compatible formulation that combines the properties of plastic and mbber. [Pg.530]

Laminations. A lamination is a separation within the metal wall caused hy the presence of a highly elongated nonmetallic inclusion. Laminations generally are aligned parallel to the surfaces. [Pg.316]

Polymers can be modified by the introduction of ionic groups [I]. The ionic polymers, also called ionomers, offer great potential in a variety of applications. Ionic rubbers are mostly prepared by metal ion neutralization of acid functionalized rubbers, such as carboxylated styrene-butadiene rubber, carboxylated polybutadiene rubber, and carboxylated nitrile rubber 12-5]. Ionic rubbers under ambient conditions show moderate to high tensile and tear strength and high elongation. The ionic crosslinks are thermolabile and, thus, the materials can be processed just as thermoplastics are processed [6]. [Pg.441]

Example 11. One-Component, Moisture-Cure Polyurethane Sealant. This example is of a low-hardness, high-elongation, moisture-curable polyurethane sealant. The material is based on a low-%NCO prepolymer made from 4,4 -MDI and a low-unsaturation (low-monol-content) Acclaim polyol from Bayer. It is adapted from (a) J. Lear et al., Adhesives Age, February 1999, pp. 18-23 and (b) B. Lawrey, et al., presented at UTECH 2000, The Hague, The Netherlands, March 30, 2000, Crain Communications London, 2000. [Pg.256]
