A review by Galli et al. describes several buffer-absorbing chromophores as co-ions. These include phthalate, PDG (2,6-pyridinedicarboxylic acid), PMA (1,2,4,5-benzenetetra-carboxylic acid or pyromellitic acid), TMA (trimellitic acid), MES, 2,4-dihydrobenzoic acid with s-aminocaproic acid, p-hydroxybenzoate, p-anisate, 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid, salicylic acid with TRIS, benzoic acid with tris (hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (TRIS), and many others. On the other hand, some inorganic chromophores such as chromate (Figure 9) or molybdate may be added to a buffer. A BGE-containing chromate should have a pH above 8, because it precipitates below this value. The advantage of a TRIS buffer or buffers at around pH 6 is that carbonate will not interfere with the separation because it is not soluble in TRIS or at lower pHs. [Pg.329]

A comparative evaluation of haemodialysis tubing plasticized with di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate and with tri-2-ethylhexyl trimellitate was made in 11 patients (10 men, one woman) with chronic renal failure on haemodialysis for a period of six months. During treatment with tubing containing di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, the plasma level of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate rose from 0.10 mg/L (range, < 0.05-0.17) to 0.70 mg/L (range, 0.30-1.6) (detection limit, 0.05 mg/L) (Christensson etal., 1991). [Pg.56]

Trimellitate Esters. These materials are produced by the esterification of a range of alcohols with trimellitic anhydride (TMA), which is similar in structure to phthalic anhydride with the exception of the third functionality (COOH) on the aromatic ring. Consequently, esters are produced in the ratio of three moles of alcohol to one mole of anhydride. Common esters in this family are tris-2-ethyhexyl trimellitate (trioctyl trimellitate, TOTM) L79TM, an ester of mixed semilinear C7 and C9 alcohols and L810TM, an ester of mixed linear Cg and C1Q alcohols. [Pg.122]

To give the semipermeable membrane flexibility, plasticizers such as phthalates (dibenzyl, dihexyl, or butyl octyl), triacetin, epoxidized tal-late, or tri-isoctyl trimellitate are added.18 In the design of osmotic controlled release systems, these plasticizers help to modulate and achieve the required release rate. [Pg.215]

The analysis of aliphatic acids was performed using a P/ACE MDQ capillary electrophoresis instrument equipped with a 60 cm x 50 pm id fused silica capillary (Beckman Coulter, Fullerton, CA). The samples were filtered through a 0.45-gm cellulose acetate filter (Whatman, Maidstone, UK) prior to hydrodynamic injection at 15 psi for 4 s. The voltage was set to 20 kV at reversed polarity. The electrolyte, composed of 5.0 mM trimellitic acid, 50 mM tris(hydroxymethyl)-aminomethane, 1.0 mM tetradecyl-trimethylammoniumbromide, and 0.5 mM calcium chloride, had a pH of 9.8. Before use, it was filtered through a 0.2-gm cellulose nitrate filter and degassed withhelium. Detection was performedby indirect UV absorption at 220 nm. Succinic acid was used as internal standard. [Pg.531]

Other 2-ethylhexanol based plasticizers include di-2-ethylhexyl adipate for vinyl food wrap application, tri-2-ethylhexyl trimellitate, di-2-ethylhexyl azelate, and di-2-ethylhexyl sebacate. [Pg.90]

A study has been carried out on the interactions of blood with plasticised poly(vinyl chloride) biomaterials in a tubular form. The influence of different factors such as the biomaterial, antithrombotic agent, blood condition and the nature of the application is represented when considering the blood response in the clinical utilisation of the plasticised PVC. The PVC was plasticised with di-(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) and tri-(2-ethylhexyl)trimellitate (TEHTM)and in-vitro and ex-vivo procedures used to study the biomaterial with respect to the selection of the plasticiser. The blood response was measured in terms of the measurement of fibrinogen adsorption capacity, thrombin-antithrombin III complex and the complement component C3a. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used for surface characterisation of the polymers and the data obtained indicated that in comparison with DEHP-PVC, there is a higher reactivity... [Pg.113]

Polymer films prepared by Hayes [3] consisting of bis(2-hydroxyethyl)tere-phthalate, lactic acid, tris(2-hydroxyethyl)trimellitate, ethylene glycol, poly (ethylene glycol), and the colorant titanium dioxide were both biodegradable and compostable. [Pg.71]
