Transportation highway system

The cost of transportation has an important effect on the marketabiUty of chemicals. For that reason, transportation, along with numerous other factors, is often a significant consideration in determining the location of chemical production faciUties. In addition, convenient and economical access to water and rail transportation and the interstate highway system, as well as proximity to raw materials and markets, may influence the choice of warehouse and terminal sites for storage and redistribution of chemical products (see Plant location). 

The trucking industry has convinced some states that a tractor trailer can haul two cargo units on interstate highways. The result is that each truck driver can transport twice as much per man-hour. The interstate highway system itself has sped up trucking service. 

Medication Transportation System. If the brain, the spinal cord, and the nerves make up the body s communication system, then the heart, blood vessels, and blood are the body s transportation system. Blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the organs and then returns the wastes for disposal. Medications use this same internal highway system to travel throughout the body.

In 1973, the City of Atlanta reversed its position of approval of the 1-485 project, and in 1974, the Atlanta Regional Commission deleted 1-485 from regional plan alternatives. The decision of the State Transportation Board to withdraw 1-485 from the Interstate Highway System was made in November, 1974. The Federal Highway Administration approved the withdrawal in 1975.
