Transportation and storage of material

In addition to encompassing all of the unit operations in the plant, the plant flow sheets may also include materials handling operations associated with the transport and storage of materials in and around the mill. Typically, flow sheets provide quantitative information regarding water and slurry flows, toimages, and assays. 

Rating the layout of the warehouse is based on how well these objectives are met. Effective use of space for storage, operational, and support functions is considered here. The transport and storage of material is analyzed to determine how well the layout supports reduced handling costs and increased labor productivity. 

Logistics refers to the organisation of transport of people, and supply and storage of materials. The transport of people is linked to the mode of manning the operation, and is clearly much simplified for an unmanned operation.

The selection of materials of construction for the equipment and facilities to produce any and all chemicals is a Keystone subject of chemical engineering. The chemical products desired cannot be manufactured without considering the selection of the optimum materials of construction used as the containers for the safe, economical manufacture, and required product quahty, i.e., production, handling, transporting, and storage of the products desired. A number of reasons have been outlined, both environmental and economic, of why the transport and storage of liquid chlorine are not desirable. Combining the chlor-alkali plant with the EDC unit, as suggested, makes EDC the intermediate material in the vinyl chain. Catalyst fines, metals, rust, sand, and other material can be contained in residual fuel. These compounds arise from the crude oil, processing catalysts, water contamination, transportation, and storage of the fuel. If the total ash content is >0.20 wt%, deposits can form in burner systems and corrosion in high-temperature burners can occur. 

For a trait to be selected for, or not selected against, its benefits should increase fitness more than its costs reduce fitness, on average. A growing literature on the evolution of chemical defenses suggests that decreased susceptibility to consumers can be achieved only by diverting materials and energy from other functions.7 19 65-68 While there are several theoretical reasons to believe that defenses are costly in terms of trade-offs, this common assumption is supported by litde direct evidence.65 However, there is much circumstantial evidence that supports the idea that the production, maintenance, transport, and storage of secondary metabolites have associated costs.
