It is sometimes useful to make simple transformations between output and input—for example, multiplying a value by a fixed constant or translating an object from one type to another. In the implementation, such things can be done either by an appropriate small component or by some flexibility in the architecture that permit inputs to accommodate straightforward translations on-the-fly.
