Translation definition

Index methods are based on structured check lists, which translate definitions in numeric values. Final indexes - which represent risk levels - derive from numerical combinations of the values, according to empirical algorithms. The first safety index method was the DOW Fire and Explosion Index (AIChE 2005), which was proposed in the seventies. Hazard sources and safety barriers are accounted respectively as Penalties and Credits. [Pg.736]

This definition causes the wavefiinction to move with the molecule as shown for the X direction in figure Al.4,3. Each binary fork is attached to a branch of the preceding fork and is conditioned by the success or failure represented by that branch. Thus, evei7 fork, represents conditional probability. Each limb of the HRA event tree is described or labeled, in shorthand. Capital letters (A) represent I ailure lower case letters (a) represent success. The same convention applies to Greek letters, which represent non-human error events, such as equipment failures. The letters S and F are exceptions to this rule in that they represent system success and failure respectively, in practice, the limbs may be labeled with a short description of the error lo eliminate the need for a legend. The labeling format is unimportant the critical task in developing HRA event trees is the definition of the events themselves and their translation to the trees. [Pg.181]

These are the characteristics which need to be specified and their achievement controlled, assured, improved, managed, and demonstrated. These are the characteristics which form the subject matter of the specified requirements referred to in ISO 9000. When the value of these characteristics is quantified or qualified they are termed quality requirements or requirements for quality. ISO 8402 1994 defines requirements for quality as an expression of the needs or their translation into a set of quantitatively or qualitatively stated requirements for the characteristics of an entity to enable its realization and examination. While rather verbose, this definition removes the confusion over quality requirements and technical requirements. (An additional definition is provided in Appendix A.) Technical requirements for a product or service are quality requirements. The requirements of ISO 9000 are quality system requirements. [Pg.25]

If a quality record was intended to be any document generated or used by the quality system, the definition would surely have indicated this. If we decompose the definition further, requirements for quality are defined in ISO 8402 as the expression of the needs or their translation into a set of quantitatively stated requirements for the characteristics of an entity to enable its realization and examination. Clearly, such a requirement would be a contract, product specification, design requirement, etc. This implies that any product verification records are quality records, but it rules out any recorded information as being a quality record. [Pg.495]

Although we will stick to the IL-6 gene, it should be mentioned at the side that two other RNA polymerases exist in mammalian cells responsible for the synthesis of RNA molecules, which are not translated into proteins ribosomal (rRNA), transfer (tRNA), small nuclear (snRNA), small nucleolar (snoRNA), and some of the recently discovered microRNAs and piRNAs. These RNA molecules act in the process of translation and mRNA turnover. Micro and piRNAs are probably extremely important in the definition of stem cells and of differentiation programs. Some of them are synthesized by RNA polymerase II. [Pg.1225]

These two experiments, which are being extended, show quite definitely that (in these compounds, at least) pure translational recoir is not sufficient to cause the reactions described in this review. [Pg.104]

A partition of the process of understanding a eomplex phenomenon into three steps has been supported and justified by Runcimaim [12] for social sciences. The definitions done by Runcimarm cannot be directly translated into our field, nor the names he seleeted for the sequence of levels, but his scheme, presented here in a modified form, gives a eontribution to appreciate the strategy and the impact of specific works of research. [Pg.5]

The syntax for implementing this in an actual expert system is, of course, quite diverse and it is beyond the scope of this book to describe this in more detail. As an example the above-mentioned mle is translated in a realistic syntax. This starts by the definition of the attributes and their possible values. In this examples two attributes must be defined ... [Pg.631]

Time-of-fhght spectra of the D atom products have been measured at many laboratory angles at both collision energies. Translational energy distributions can be derived by direct conversion of these TOF spectra. For the experiment carried out at 2.0 kcal/mol, Fig. 28(a) shows the total product angular distribution from 0 = —60° to 117.5°, which correspond to the forward (—60°), the sideward (30°) and the backward (117.5°) scattering directions. The direction of the D2 beam is at 0 = 0°, while the direction of the 0(XD) beam is at 0/. 90°. By definition, the forwardness and back-... [Pg.133]

DEFINITION A class of schemes is translatable into a class C2 written Ci-C2, or C] = C2, if for every P in C- there is a strongly equivalent Q in C2. Now we must show that our definition is "reasonable" in that the classes of recursion schemes and of recursion augmented program schemes are effectively inter-translatable. The proof is not hard. [Pg.261]

Now (L (Pg)) is not 2-definite (or even k-definite for any k ) and so P3 cannot be translated into any strongly equivalent monadic recursion scheme. [Pg.315]
