Trace minerals vegetables

Components in whole grains that may be protective include antioxidants and trace minerals [62(NC)]. Many of the protective compounds in whole grains (wheat, rice and corn being the main ones) are also found in fruit and vegetables, but some plant compounds are more concentrated in whole grains. [Pg.49]

Vagatabie salt Ses salt flavored with powdered dried vegetables. Seasoning for various dishes. Provides mainly sail and some trace minerals. Excessive use ot any form ol salt may be detnmental In good healtb. [Pg.541]

Peroxide formation and the breakdown of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the body may be prevented by vitamin E (synthetic antioxidants such as BHA and BHT do not act in the cells of the body). Also, the essential trace mineral selenium is part of the enzyme which breaks down peroxides once they have been formed. Therefore, adequate dietary intakes of both vitamin E and selenium are the best forms of insurance against toxicity from peroxides, when the handling of vegetable oils leaves much to be desired. [Pg.806]

A number of trace elements were analyzed in food and in bone mineral. Trace element levels in foods varied considerably in some cases between raw and eooked foods. Most notably, iron was absorbed from the cooking pot and from water, particularly in foods such as barley and beef. Strontium values, which are higher in raw vegetables than in uncooked beef, homogenized in the stew such that cooked meat and vegetables, were indistinguishable. [Pg.1]

Mining and industrial activities produce large quantities of volatiles and dust particles and increase concentrations of trace elements and heavy metals in soils, waters, and vegetation. When mineral deposits containing concentrated trace elements and heavy metals are exposed at the earth s... [Pg.286]

Sympathetic Ink.—By sympathetic ink is meant a fluid which, being employed in writing, does not leave a trace of color upon the paper, but which, when exposed to moisture or heat, or when washed over with some vegetal or mineral solution, or subjected to some other agency according to its nature and chemical characteristics, becomes visible, the characters being then developed in a more or less apparent manner. [Pg.382]

Fruits and vegetables contain abundant nutraceuticals or phytochemicals such as carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, enzymes, dietary fibers, minerals, antioxidants, flavonoids, and anthocyanins and other diverse components including trace chemicals. Interestingly, the flavonoids and anthocyanins in phy to chemicals could be significantly associated with reductions of risk of cardiovascular disease, macular degeneration, and improvements and preventions of many other diseases. [Pg.244]

The processes whereby raw hides are converted into useful and durable materials by treatment with various solutions of substances of animal, vegetable and sometimes mineral origin, are distinctly chemical and biological. They are investigated and explained by research, and modified and superseded by better processes, so far as the increase of knowledge admit s, while accidental impurities of a harmful nature in the liquors employed can be traced and their presence avoided,... [Pg.60]
