Tools disciplined approach

When the concept of concurrent validation is embraced by an organization, it is important for everyone to support QA s use of it as a QA tool. The quality standards of each discipline are normally stressed because of the normal commercial pressures, but it is essential that overall QA not be relaxed. The validation format in general and concurrent validation in particular will allow the flexibility needed for the situation, yet, it also provides the vehicle for a disciplined approach to ensure that no unacceptable product will be released. [Pg.814]

We needed to build a disciplined framework for innovation with specific tools and approaches that fit our culture and the nature of our businesses. [Pg.184]

Small-scale freshwater toxicity testing is but a modest fraction of a diverse array of scientific activities connected to the field of ecotoxicology. Yet, within this still emerging discipline, few will argue the fact that tools and approaches developed to measure the undesirable effects that countless chemicals (alone or in mixtures) and complex (liquid and solid) media can exert on biota have markedly contributed to aquatic ecosystem preservation. Indeed, the breadth and scope of application of bioassays thus far directed toward obtaining relevant information aimed at problemsolving and prevention of contaminant-based issues has progressed well. [Pg.33]

Currently, most decisions are either intuitive or are treated like "financial" projects. This method calls on top management for a more disciplined approach. This increases the complexity of the screening job, but should produce a portfolio that makes the best use of scarce resources. Chapter 25 contains a discussion of financial tools for better SCM. [Pg.85]

Our objective is not to set new standards, but to encourage companies and individuals to apply existing standards and the operational discipline necessary to establish their own internal requirements that support business excellence. This guideline provides tools to help the toller and their client take a systematic approach to managing their relationship and implement applicable... [Pg.10]

Policy makers, practitioners, and scholars from a variety of disciplines have recently embraced a new approach to risk reduction in health care—a "systems approach"—without proposing any specific reforms of medical liability law. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) placed its imprimatur on this approach in its recent reports (Kohn et al., 2000 IOM, 2001). In its simplest form, a systems approach to risk reduction in health care posits that an injury to a patient is often the manifestation of a latent error in the system of providing care. In other words, a medical mishap is the proverbial "accident waiting to happen" because the injury-preventing tools currently deployed, including medical liability law, are aimed at finding the individuals at fault rather than the systemic causes of error. Coexistence of a systems approach to error reduction and medical liability law as a conceptual framework for policy makers implies that the latter is likely to evolve in an incremental fashion as the former makes more visible different aspects of the medical error problem. [Pg.189]

Catalyst characterization is a lively and highly relevant discipline in catalysis. A literature survey identified over 4000 scientific publications on catalyst characterization in a period of two years [14]. The desire to work with defined materials is undoubtedly present. No less than 78% of the 143 papers presented orally at the 1 llh International Congress on Catalysis [15] contained at least some results on the catalyst(s) obtained by characterization techniques, whereas about 20% of the papers dealt with catalytic reactions over uncharacterized catalysts. Another remarkable fact from these statistics is that about 10% of the papers contained results of theoretical calculations. The trend is clearly to approach catalysis from many different viewpoints with a combination of sophisticated experimental and theoretical tools. [Pg.19]

This book was conceived also to answer the readership needs in the area of Analytical Chemistry, whether it be for study within this discipline or as a tool used in other experimental sciences and diverse areas. The background knowledge required to profit from this book is essentially that possessed by students in their first years of university. Thus, the authors have limited themselves to fundamental principles and have considered that students already have basic training in mathematics and in the approach to studying physical phenomena. Throughout this book, in-depth studies of phenomena have been avoided in order not to put off the majority of readers at whom this book is targeted. Those interested will, if necessary, be able to consult specialised works without any major difficulties, after having acquired from this book a relatively complete overview of the most currently used methods. [Pg.460]

The reason for this reticent attitude stems from the specific culture in which analytical chemistry grew into a major scientific discipline and as a consequence of the development of another distinct activity, namely chemical analysis. In its diversity of approaches, analytical chemistry is complex, it contains a variety of different techniques, some of them more reliable and accurate than others. As a discipline, analytical chemistry cannot be treated as a collection of general, simple, absolute or dogmatic concepts. It is an immensely practical subject. Its driving force is power of detection, reliability (traceability could be a tool for achieving this) and efficiency and cost [5],... [Pg.36]
