Throughput rate maximum

Throughput rate. Maximum throughput rate may not be important for the disposal of small numbers of munitions but may be significant where a large number of munitions are to be destroyed. The estimated daily throughput rates for the three detonation technologies are compared in a more quantitative fashion in Table 4-11. 

The large variety of displacement-type flmd-transport devices makes it difficult to list characteristics common to each. However, for most types it is correct to state that (1) they are adaptable to high-pressure operation, (2) the flow rate through the pump is variable (auxiliary damping systems may be employed to reduce the magnitude of pressure pulsation and flow variation), (3) mechanical considerations limit maximum throughputs, and (4) the devices are capable of efficient performance at extremely low-volume throughput rates. 

The material charge of continuous mills called the holdup cannot be set directly but is indirectly determined by operating conditions. There is a maximum throughput rate that depends on the shape of the mill, the flow characteristics of the feed, the speed of the mill, and the type of feed and discharge arrangement. Above this rate the holdup increases unstably. 

Consideration should be given to the availability of small-scale equipment, which is vital for development work prior to scale-up on pilot- or production-scale machines. Equipment choice is not necessarily based on maximum throughput rate, since the subsequent processing stages (e.g., cutting, spheronization, and drying) are batch processes and are therefore, a rate-limiting factor in production. Since extrusion is a continuous process, it allows adequate production rates for most purposes with any of the above mentioned extruder types. 

Other treatment units that affect the oxidation unit include raw sludge thickening and oxidized sludge dewatering. If the raw sludge thickener is out of service, the throughput rate will not be affected unless the maximum capacity is exceeded. If this occurs, the unit hours of operahon will have to be extended. The chlorine feed rate should be adjusted. The amount of adjustment is determined by the results of a chlorine demand test.

Of course, the multidetector technique does not increase the maximum throughput rate of a TCSPC system. In any TCSPC device there is a small but noticeable loss of photons due to the dead time" of the processing electronics. The dead time of advanced TCSPC devices is of the order of 100 ns, and for count rates above 1 MHz the counting loss becomes noticeable (see Sect 7.9, page 332). Relatively few non-stockpile munitions are stored at APG (Table 1-3), although large numbers are believed to be buried there. The maximum anticipated throughput rate of eight munitions per day should be adequate to destroy the stored non-stockpile munitions as well as any recovered non-stock-pile munitions at APG in a reasonable time. 

Rate of Entry and Removal The maximum vertical rate of entry and removal of work is 11 ft/min (3.3 m/min). Higher throughput rates will cause vapor disturbances, resulting in high solvent losses and unnecessary contamination of the atmosphere. 

However, there is a limitation in terms of the maximal achievable sample throughput rate because of the planar nanochannel with a nanometer-scale cross-sectional area for separation. Maximum gas and liquid throughput rates of packed columns depend on the type of packing and packing geometry, the relative free void fraction and the physical properties of the mixed phases. The column becomes flooded beyond a certain volumetric flux of the vapor at a given flux of the reflux. A controlled counterflow of the phases then does not exist the separation efficiency of the column is reduced drastically.
