Threshold criteria were being considered as an effect of the irradiations. Among the many proposed, Fink (Ref 90) set forth for expls a threshold range of lxl 09 — lxlO11 erg/gm(C) (1.14 x 10 —1.14 x 109 R) with the threshold criteria of a 10% decrease in expl force power. The time factor was not included as with Groo-cock (Ref 59) who calcd that 3.42 x 107 R in one second would ignite HMX... 

Even more than EP, IIP is a threshold criterion. Its value is zero or one, with only a small range over which intermediate values occur. Threshold criteria can be used to allocate areas in which a certain condition is fulfilled. They divide the parameter space (i.e. the space formed by all the parameters considered in the optimization process, see section 5.1.3) into areas where a certain condition is met and areas where this is not the case. In the case of IIP there is a diffuse boundary in between the different areas. 

The threshold criteria, which may be used to define the boundaries of areas in which an acceptable result can be achieved. The boundaries can be at some arbitrary value for Rs or S (or at an arbitrary value for P< 1), or at a fixed value. The latter arises naturally from th6 use of IP or (preferably) IIP, or by setting Pmin = /. The use of TIP (or IP) leads to diffuse boundaries.

The mapping of T from the subdomain of temperatures onto the interval [0, 1] is the membership or compatibility function fx T). The NCP contains several criteria that are Intended to guide decisions on the standards to be achieved in Individual remedial actions. Among these the most important are the threshold criteria, which include (1) a general requirement to protect human health and the environment and (2) cleanup standards which have applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements (ARAR). Under the ARAR approach, EPA can use standards from other federal and state statutes (e.g., CWA, SDWA, RCRA) on a case-by-case basis when these requirements are applicable or relevant and appropriate. For example, RCRA land-disposal restorations (LDR) may be relevant and applicable" if a CERCLA remedial action involves RCRA hazardous waste and the waste or its hazardous residue is to be land disposed. In this case, the RCRA LDR standards that are based on the best demonstrated available technology (BDAT) may apply.

The method for finding outliers takes averages around two positions in each auto-correlation and calculates the medians from the distribution of values over the batches. The first position is at zero time-lag where a single, spurious high count distorts the mean squared value. The second position is at two-thirds of the maximum lag where the correlation curve has decayed to its value in the tail and a train of non-zero counts tends to extend the tail. The four median values then are used to form threshold criteria to remove batches that contain auto-correlations that exceed the medians by a factor greater than the ratios of median values to the lowest ranked members.

Besides, it is necessary to be able to predict which regime occurs at droplet impact.
