In the next chapter of this volume, Professors M. Wozniak (Cracow University of Poland) and H. van der Plas (University of Wageningen, The Netherlands) survey the interesting chemistry of nitronaphthyridines. 

The fifth chapter l-(2,4,6-Trialkylphenyl)-lH-Phospholes with a Flattened P-Pyramid Synthesis and Reactivity presents the interesting chemistry of these compounds including electrophilic substitution and Diels-Alder reactions and sigmatropic rearrangements, making a variety of organophosphorus compounds accessible.

What does Chemical Manufacturing include This is summarized in Table 1.3 in terms of shipments. Note that Basic Chemicals is the largest division in percentage for shipments, and Pharmaceuticals and Medicine is a close second. We will cover the interesting chemistry and characteristics of each of these sectors in this book. 

Over 100 billion lb of chemicals and polymers per year are made from ethylene, by far the most important organic chemical. Over 40% of all organic chemicals by volume are derived from ethylene. Unfortunately, we cannot describe the interesting chemistry and uses for all the important derivatives of ethylene. The almost universal adoption of trinitrotoluene as the most efficient explosive in modern warfare the development and refinement of its manufacture, and the interesting chemistry of its compounds, as well as those of the lower nitro-derivatives of toluene has prompted quite extensive research as to their composition, structure, manufacture, properties and uses. The interesting chemistry of sialic acid has been discussed in several reviews [213,214,215]. Sialic acid is an important component of complex oligosaccharides, when it is placed in the terminal position, and often masks the penultimate saccharide sequences. In this position, it interacts with numerous receptors including the influenza virus neuraminidase, and receptors mediating intercellular interactions such as the selectins (members of the C-t) e animal lectin family) and siglecs (or sialoadhesins, members of the immunoglobulin superfamily). The structure of influenza B neuraminidase in complex with sialic acid has been solved by X-ray crystallography at 2.2 A resolution (O Fig. 17) [216]. 

Bryozoans are of particular interest to researchers for two main reasons the variety of secondary metabolites that they contain, and because they are common marine fouling organisms. An interesting kind of animations accompany films which illustrate the course of chemical experiments (Fig. 6). These experiments were recorded in close-up, thus allowing students to take a good look at respective elements of laboratory apparatus, and to follow subsequent experiment steps. It is experiments that require substances unattainable at schools, i.e., those which are expensive, toxic, or hard-to-recycle, that are presented most frequently. Computer animations account on a microscale for the phenomena nonnally obseived on a macroscale, such as dissociation or electrolysis. The teacher s book designed alone The Interesting Chemistry handbook contains descriptions of exemplary utilization of respective simulations in class, individually, or in small groups.
