Stitching to an auxiliary support is the least desirable of the methods that have been tried. In one case observed by Toby Raphael (National Parks Service, personal communication, 1985), a tapa garment had to be completely dismantled for the procedure, and stitching was done through the body of the cloth as well as at the edges through the original seams. While this treatment, undertaken at some time in the past, reflects the application of textile techniques to tapa, it is clearly a more interventive treatment than would be recommended today. [Pg.175]

Generally the sfipping of woven fabrics is tested by two different methods, those that imitate yam shifting within the fabric system and those that cover yam shifting near a seam sewn into the treated fabric (Table 9.1). The latter are more important in the textile industry. ... [Pg.119]

The produced warp knitted fabrics can be set up concerning elongation and porosity and show a higher extension than woven brics. In contrast to knitted fabrics, warp knitted textile structures are insensible to cuttings, which means if a me is ripped up, the failure does not continue in the textile structure (a so called ladder). Ibis property leads to high seam chunking resistance, udiicb is especially needed for medical applications. [Pg.345]
