Melamine-formaldehyde condensates are also useful in textile finishing. For example, they are useful agents for permanent glazing, rot proofing, wool shrinkage control and, in conjunction with phosphorus compounds, flameproofing.

Melamine dinnerware can be made very decorative for popularity. This resin has better physical properties than phenolics and it can be very easily colored, which phenolics cannot. The condensation products resulting from urea and formaldehyde with no other additives are strongly polar, water-soluble in the non-cross-linked state, and relatively inexpensive. They are used as sizing resins, as finishing agents for textiles (crease resistance), to produce papers with improved wet strength, and in foam production.
