Texas Battery

During 1961, we dropped some performance fasks and added others. My co-workers and I tried out a battery of six cognitive measures - the so-called Texas Battery developed by Moran and Mefford in 1959. The designers had identified six basic cognitive skills, using factor analysis. To allow repeated administration of their brief (fcee minute) tests while minimizing practice effects, they created 20 equivalent forms for each cognitive skill. [Pg.276]

The development of ionic liquids dates to 1914. The first research efforts involved the synthesis of ethylammonium nitrate. Hurley and Wier at the Rice Institute in Texas, 1948, developed the first ionic liquids with chloro-aluminate ions as bath solutions for electroplating aluminum. These liquids were studied primarily for their applications as electrolytes in electrochemistry technologies such as electroplating, batteries and alloy preparations. [Pg.153]

Electronic Time Fuze. Development of an electronic time fuze which would be substantially more accurate than exisitng time fuzes is described in the report of Texas Instruments, Inc (Ref). A programmable digital circuit is driven by. an oscillator based on a Picatinny Arsenal design. As power source, two types of battery, a silver-zinc primary battery and a reserve battery which uses ammonia as the electrolyte, were tried. A detailed manufacturing plan is included as an appendix... [Pg.717]

The natural sodium sulfate industry in the United States in 2003 involved two producers, one in California and the other in Texas. On the byproduct manufacturing side, sodium sulfate was recovered in 17 plants across the United States these included ascorbic acid manufacture, battery reclamation, cellulose, rayon, and silica pigments. Approximate consumption of sodium sulfate by end use was soap and detergents, 46 percent pulp and paper, 13 percent textiles, 12 percent glass, 11 percent and others, 23 percent. See Table 26.6 for statistics on sodium sulfate production and consumption. [Pg.1190]

Biochip-based HIV tests have been developed by researchers at the University of Texas and Harvard Medical SchooF. The chip is placed into a toaster-sized analyser that counts the number of CD4+ cells in the drop of blood. Results are available in ten minutes and correlate well with flow cytometry (the gold standard). The device, which is being marketed by LabNow, Inc. weighs less than 2.3 kg, requires no excess reagents and is battery-operated. [Pg.208]

Some events are sufficiently serious as to justify making recommendations throughout the industry for example, an incident involving a highly hazardous catalyst could lead to a recommendation that new technology—one which uses a much less hazardous catalyst— is needed. A weU-known example of an industry-wide recommendation occurred following release of the Baker report to do with the explosion at a Texas City refinery (Baker, 2007). The persons who died were all working in temporary trailers. Within a very short period of time, most other refineries had removed trailers that were within their battery limits. [Pg.506]

The lead storage battery can be discharged and charged many times. But the shock of running over bumps in the road (or dead armadillos in Texas) or into the curb flakes off a little of the lead GO sulfate and eventually causes the battery to fail. [Pg.159]

Components to support such needs include those mentioned by Texas Instruments, which also offer warranty recording black boxes that record how the battery may have been abused or how it failed. This information is often very useful for postfailure analysis, particularly when the battery is a critical component in the operation of the device. Device examples ... [Pg.373]

The actuator device was developed, composed of a micro-board containing a ultra-low power 16-bit microcontroller (eZ430-RF2500, Texas Instalments, USA), powered by lithium battery and encapsulated in polymethylmetacrilate (PMMA) and a set of six actuators composed of PVDF and silver electrodes, electrically insulated by dip-coating as previously described. A similar, but static, control device was also developed, sterilized and implanted. [Pg.298]
