Over running

Computer simulation is an experimental science to the extent that calculated dynamic properties are subject to systematic and statistical errors. Sources of systematic error consist of size dependence, poor equilibration, non-bond interaction cutoff, etc. These should, of course, be estimated and eliminated where possible. It is also essential to obtain an estimate of the statistical significance of the results. Simulation averages are taken over runs of finite length, and this is the main cause of statistical imprecision in the mean values so obtained. [Pg.56]

Here the sums over /, / run over the neighbors of /. The highest term is a product of (c+ 1) factors with c the coordination number of the lattice. [Pg.464]

Cost control information showing a clear picture of over-runs and under-runs by activity. [Pg.823]

Drives incorporating over-running clutches as backstopping devices should be referred to the clutch manufacturers, because certain types of lubricants may adversely affect clutch performance. [Pg.857]

In order to identify the product, we used a procedure of its extraction from the surface similar to that used in the case of a-oxygen benzene oxidation [18]. For this purpose, a number of single-tum-over runs in the room temperature methane oxidation were carried out according to the following scheme ... [Pg.498]

The method can be expressed mathematically by noting that the slope of the residual function plotted against % is d//dx. Geometrically, the slope is rise over run, so,... [Pg.56]

Which ever set of tables you use to develop the initial information, you have to address both the technology and the soils. They are a unit, and consideration of one without the other is a sure recipe for significant cost over-runs and potential failure of the remediation scheme. [Pg.126]

Consider a real function y = f(x) of a real variable x. By this we mean a mapping of the real number x to a unique real number y, given by the rule /. Furthermore, let us assume it to be continuous. We will introduce the concept of the derivative of f(x) with respect to x in terms of the slope of the tangent line at the point x,f(x)). In order to do this, we need to consider three simple constructive rules using the slope of a straight line as our starting point, and Leibniz rule as our keystone. The slope is calculated as a ratio of two displacements rise over run . Hence, we define the derivative of y with respect to r as a quotient of the two corresponding differentials, denoted by dy (the rise ) and dx (the run ) ... [Pg.109]

In introductory geometry classes, the slope of a line is often described as rise over run or Ay/Ax. Use the x- and y-intercept values of a Lineweaver-Burk plot to prove that the slope of the line is KJV . [Pg.91]

The slopes of the lines where the solid, liquid, and gas phases are increasing in temperature are significant. One definition of slope is rise over run. In this... [Pg.185]

The techno-economical comparison of WACO and WHPCO technologies suggests that the latter would preferable for the following situations, where capital costs are predominant over running costs ... [Pg.52]

The slope of the line equals the ratio of mass (from the vertical y-axis) divided by volume (from the horizontal x-axis). You may remember this as rise over run from math class. The slope between the two points shown is as follows ... [Pg.34]

When pure cultures are used, fermentations must be carried out aseptically. Thus, the media must be sterilized and the fermenter operated under aseptic conditions. If foreign organisms contaminate the culture, they can over-run the desired culture or destroy the product. [Pg.341]

In the equation above, is the core Fock operator, and sum over runs over all the doubly occupied active orbitals of cf>. F is the two-body portion of H in normal order with respect to We do not explicitly indicate here and later which < 0/u, been used as the vacuum, since it would be clear from the functions the operators act upon. [Pg.592]

SOLUTION The slope of the tangent line is equal to the height of the triangle divided by its base ( rise over run ). This gives... [Pg.334]

Figure 2.16 Both of these line graphs show linear relationships. The slope of each line is defined as the ratio of rise over run. [Pg.57]

This feature seems to be embarrassing for frequentist systems where there seems to be no formal way of declaring a hypothesis not rejected once it has been rejected. It does not appear to be a reversible process. However, this is not the only interpretation of what goes on in a sequential analysis with over-running. One view is that the only analysis which counts is the final one, once the further information has been collected. The trial has been stopped earlier on the practical grounds that it seems as if a decision of efficacy is now possible. There is no question of unrejecting Hq. It was not rejected in the first place. After all, in a fixed sample size trial, we would have made a decision when to stop the trial and then some time later we would either have found that the result would or would not have been significant. The only difference with the sequential trial is that the decision when to stop has made some use of the results. [Pg.308]
