Testing technologies user acceptance

The FAT, Figure E-2, is a mutually agreed acceptance test of the system between the supplier/developer and the user. It is performed by the computer technology supplier/developer at the supplier s/developer s site. The user will often witness this test to accept the system for delivery and to mark a contractual milestone.

To prove our hypothesis that two-handed interaction and speech is adopted quite easily and quickly by users, we performed a usability study. Usability evaluation studies seem to be a preferred strategy for the evaluation of multimodal interfaces because it allows the investigation of how users adopt and interact with multimodal technology providing valuable information about the general usability and the user experience. Several types of user testing have been conducted for multimodal interfaces in both usability laboratories and in the field revealing user preferences for interaction modalities based on factors such as acceptance in different social contexts, noisy and mobile environments [18]. An overview on new forms of usability evaluation methods for multimodal interfaces is presented in [4]. 

Figure i provides a diagrammatic overview of the proposed development environment. This environment will aim to provide support for safety critical related technologies within a framework which is acceptable to the end user, specifically a vehicle dynamicist. This framework will combine advanced software development techniques and sophisticated vehicle test rig technology to provide users wdth an integrated, and hopefully seamless, development and test environment.
