The objective of this guidance is to describe a quality systems model and demonstrate how and where the elements of this model can fit within the requirements of the CGMP regulations. The philosophy being put forward is that quality should be build into the product, and testing alone cannot be relied on to ensure product quality. [Pg.24]

It has become necessary to question the use of in vivo safety evaluation studies in animals because of the pressure from society to reduce the use of live animals in medical research. Consequently, there has been an increase in the exploration and use of various in vitro systems in toxicity testing. The current philosophy is embodied in the concept of the three R s replacement, reduction, and refinement. Thus if possible, live animals should be replaced with alternatives. If this is not possible, then measures should be adopted to reduce the numbers used. Finally, research workers should also refine the methods used to ensure greater animal welfare and reduction in distress and improve the quality of the data derived, if possible. [Pg.13]

In the perceptual approach one does not characterize the system under test but one characterizes the audio quality of the output signal of the system under test. It uses the ideal signal as a reference and an auditory perception model to determine the audible differences between the output and the ideal. For audio systems that should be transparent the ideal signal is the input signal. An overview of the basic philosophy used in perceptual audio quality measurement techniques is given in Fig. 1.1. [Pg.302]

Different engine lubricant testing approvals arise from different attitudes and philosophies in different continents and also different countries within those continents. Issues are now addressed internationally by new test method development and procedures for specifying lubricant qualities, leading to new approval systems. These developments benefit engine and equipment manufacturers, producers of lubricants and additives and, ultimately, users of mechanical systems of whatever form in an eventually international marketplace. [Pg.503]
