The laser flash method is used for thermal diffusivity measurements. In this technique, a laser is used to pulse one side of a test specimen uniformly. The temperature rise of the other side is measured using an infrared detector. This transient is then used to calculate the thermal diffusivity. While the technique is simple in concept, nonidealities such as heat loss from the front and back surfaces complicate the resulting data analysis, so that fairly complex models need to be used to extract the thermal dilfu-sivity. The line-source technique is a transient method capable of very fast measurements. A line source of heat is located at the center of the sample being tested as shown in Fig. 4. The whole is at a constant initial temperature. During the course of the measurement, a known amount of heat is produced by the line source, resulting in a heat wave propagating radially into the sample. The mechanisms and reasons of catalytic activity of polyaniline (PANI)-type conducting polymers toward oxygen reduction in acidic and saline solutions are investigated by electrochemical and quantum-chemical methods. It is important to note that Vie and Kjelstrup [250] designed a method of measuring fhe fhermal conductivities of different components of a fuel cell while fhe cell was rurming (i.e., in situ tests). They added four thermocouples inside an MEA (i.e., an invasive method) one on each side of the membrane and one on each diffusion layer (on the surface facing the FF channels). The temperature values from the thermocouples near the membrane and in the DL were used to calculate the average thermal conductivity of the DL and CL using Fourier s law. Unfortunately, the thermal conductivity values presented in their work were given for both the DL and CL combined. The influence of Sn on the thermal transformations and redox properties were investigated in detail using XRD, TG/DTA, SEM, TPR, 1 l9Sn-MAS NMR and UV-visible diffuse-reflectance (DR) spectroscopy methods. Some of these samples calcined at 450 °C were tested as catalysts in the partial oxidation of methanol (POM) reaction. In this paper we discuss briefly the effect of Sn-incorporation on the structural features and reducibility of CoAI-LDH.
