In rabbits, application of methomyl resulted in mild eye irritation. Pain, short-sightedness, blurred distance vision, tearing, and other eye disturbances may occur within a few minutes of eye contact with methomyl. Prolonged or repeated exposure to methomyl may cause symptoms similar to the pesticide s acute effects. Repeated exposure to small amounts of methomyl may cause an unsuspected inhibition of cholinesterase, resulting in flu-like symptoms, such as weakness, lack of appetite, and muscle aches. Cholinesterase inhibition may persist for 2 to 6 weeks. This condition is reversible if exposure is discontinued. Since cholinesterase is increasingly inhibited with each exposure, severe cholinesterase inhibition symptoms may be produced in a person who has... [Pg.191]

Degradation is any undesirable change in a physical property or the appearance of the PPE material. Examples include swelling, shrinkage, loss of puncture and tear resistance, and an increase in stiffness due to exposure to pesticides. The degradation effects of a pesticide on PPE materials can be assessed in the laboratory or in the field. [Pg.225]

In a typical degradation test, a specimen from the PPE or, in some cases (e.g., a glove), the entire item is immersed in the pesticide for some period of time. At predetermined intervals, the specimen is removed, tested, and observed. In the laboratory, strength, puncture, and tear properties are commonly measured using a machine with which the specimen is stretched and the force required to stretch the specimen recorded. Significant increases or decreases (+20%) in any of the properties would be indicative of poor resistance to the pesticide formulation. Losses in these properties would generally result from the sorption of one or more components of the pesticide formulation by the glove material. [Pg.225]

Inspect containers regularly for tears, splits, breaks, leaks, rust, or corrosion. When a container is damaged, pnt on appropriate personal protective equipment and take immediate action. If the damaged container is an aerosol can or fumigant tank that contains pesticides under pressure, use special care to avoid accidentally releasing the pesticide into the air. When a container is damaged ... [Pg.265]

Products and Uses An ingredient in fumigants, insecticides, rat exterminator, and tear gas. Products include fungicides, pesticides, and rat poisons. [Pg.91]

Chloropicrin (76-06-2) is an extremely toxic chemical with a very strong, irritating odour. In addition to its use in organic synthesis, pesticides, and tear gas it is mixed in small quantities with other toxic but nonodoriferous gases to provide a warning of their presence if they are released. [Pg.165]
