Task 1 Strategy Deliverables

Deliverables for this task are the most likely to look alike, at least structurally, from sphere to sphere. The subsequent initiatives, such as systems design or cost reduction, will vary greatly based on the activities in the sphere. But the process proposed here should produce similar sets of Phase 1 deliverables. [Pg.291]

In the following subsections, there are two categories of deliverables workshops and documents. A workshop is either a decision-making or training session. It may or may not produce a document. Documents report decisions, support an analysis, or provide a method of communicating change. [Pg.291]

Deliverables in this task are intended to document the existing situation without evaluating it. So the Task 1 effort focuses on gathering both quantitative and qualitative data to describe how the current supply chain operates. The effort will also gather comments from knowledgeable staff about the current operation, but no final evaluations are made. [Pg.292]

This task produces an assessment of the as-is supply chain. The intent moves from describing how the supply chain operates to describing how well. The task ends with defined specifications for a new process. [Pg.292]

Documents Listing of current improvement projects Market requirements for the supply chain — by segment. Current efforts directed at improving the sphere s supply chain. Criteria market imposes for performance. Should include whether a functional or innovative model and comparative performance. [Pg.293]

Phase 1, which is strategy building, sets the direction, providing a vision for the future and a structure for implementation. The process for Phase 1 will have similar deliverables, tailored to the situation, for each sphere under examination. Chapter 12 describes these tasks in some detail. The end product of Phase 1 is a "conceptual" design. The conceptual design is essentially a justification document. It is in sufficient detail to understand what will be implemented and the costs and benefits of implementation. This will vary from organization to organization. [Pg.288]
