Levothyroxine tablets may be given to infants and children who cannot swallow intact tablets. Crush the proper dose tablet and suspend in a small amount (5 to 10 mL) of water. The suspension can be given by spoon or dropper. Do not store the suspension for any period of time. Do not use foods... 

The lanthanum exchanged Y zeolite (LaY) was made by contacting an ammonium Y (Linde type 31-200 powder) with an aqueous solution of lanthanum chloride. Approximately 60-70 percent of the ammonium ions were exchanged in the procedure. The resulting LaY powder was pressed into tablets, crushed and sieved to -60+80 mesh.

Compaction simulators are most commonly used to replicate the compaction process of a rotary tablet press. Manufacturing parameters, such as production speed, dwell lime, compression force, precompression force are often studied using a relatively small quantity of bulk powder. These parameters can significantly affect tablet crushing strength, friability, and disintegration time. The relationship among compaction pressure. 

A regulatory agency asked whether the polymorphic form of an API changed during the formulation process. To answer this question. X-ray powder diffraction patterns of crushed tablets, crushed placebo tablets, and three lots of the API were acquired (Fig. 5).

Because of the well defined shape of tablets, crushing tests are regularly and with great success used in the pharmaceutical industry in-line or off-line and often automatically, in combination with an automatic sampler, for monitoring tablet strength. Other modern, fully automated equipment measures tablet weight, thickness, diameter, and hardness for quality control and validation (Fig. 5.32). 

Sample preparation Tablets. Crush tablets, weigh out amount equivalent to about 40 mg trimethoprim, dissolve in EtOH, filter, make up to 200 mL with EtOH. Suspensions. Dilute 5 mL suspension to 100 mL with EtOH, filter. 

In a double-blind, double-dummy, randomized crossover study in 16 opioid-dependent patients stable on buprenorphine 24 mg/day, whole buprenorphine tablets were compared with crushed tablets. Crushing of the tablets in treatment centers was used as an approach to curb the abuse potential and diversion of buprenorphine. There were no differences in the clinical effects of whole and crushed tablets, suggesting that there was no clinical objection to using crushed tablets in order to counter diversion [14 j. 

Procedure for decomposition of tablets—Crush twenty tablets to a powder, transfer a suitable amount to the flask, and add powdered sucrose until the total weight of sample is about 2 g. Charge the flask with iron... 

Ferrous sulfate is the most common form of iron used in iron tablets, but fumarate and gluconate are also sometimes used. A liquid formulation is available for infants, but it is not used often in anemia control programs in developing countries because of the expense compared to tablets. Crushed tablets can be given to infants and young children as an alternative, but this has not been very successful programmatically.
