As previously alluded to, functional methodology is not, as yet, fully standardized. The literature is bulging with methods, many times improvised on the spur of the moment to fit the needs and instruments of the researcher, with inadequate preliminary examination or statistical evaluation. This section will attempt to organize a general system of methodology for protein food products. In it, a general plan of assays will be followed by criteria for choice of assay, characteristics of Model Tests, and, finally, characteristics of Utility Tests. 

Syntheses Directed Toward Chasmanine.—Outstanding progress toward the total synthesis of the complex hexacyclic diterpenoid alkaloid chasmanine (46) has been reported. The pentacyclic intermediate (69) has been prepared, and, using a model system, the methodology for the conversion of this compound into chasmanine has been developed. These experiments employed many processes developed in the earlier synthetic work, and in a number of instances, considerable improvements in the methods have been made.

The inference that the Hasse methodology that could be applied to system models (Halfon 1983) could also be extended to environmental toxicology... 

Numerous studies have shown the absence of CB2 receptors in the brain. However, the presence and overexpression of CB2 receptors and fatty acid amide hydrolase in neuritic plaque-associated glia in Alzheimer s disease brains has been reported (13). The availability of cannabinoid receptor antibodies has allowed for analysis of the expression of cannabinoid receptors in human and various animal model systems. The methodology for the analysis of the expression of CBrs is similar in different species and using a variety of samples, from blood to brain tissue.
