Sedimentation Tanks These tanks are an integral part of any activated-sludge system. It is essential to separate the suspended solids from the treated liquid if a high-quality effluent is to be produced. Circular sedimentation tanks with various types of hydraulic sludge collectors have become the standard secondary sedimentation system. Square tanks have been used with common-wall construc tion for compact design with multiple tanks. Most secondary sedimentation tanks use center-feed inlets and peripheral-weir outlets. Recently, efforts have been made to employ peripheral inlets with submerged-orifice flow controllers and either center-weir outlets or peripheral-weir outlets adjacent to the peripheral-inlet channel. [Pg.2221]

Air emissions should be monitored regularly for particulate matter and fluorides. Hydrocarbon emissions should be monitored annually on the anode plant and baking furnaces. Liquid effluents should be monitored weekly for pH, total suspended solids, fluoride, and aluminum and at least monthly for other parameters. Monitoring data should be analyzed and reviewed at regular intervals and compared with the operating standards so that any necessary corrective actions can be taken. [Pg.141]

Low-differential-pressure membrane modules can be considered a subset of low-fouling membranes. These low-differential-pressure membrane modules typically have a thicker feed spacer. Instead of the standard 28-mil thick spacer, these low-differential-pressure membranes have 31- or 34-mil thick spacers. There is less resistance to flow through the feed channels, resulting in lower pressure drops through the membrane modules. Furthermore, the feed channels will not plug as quickly with suspended solids, foulants, or scale. Examples of low-differential-pressure membrane modules are the FilmTec BW30-400-34i (with a 34-mil feed spacer) and the Hydranautics CPA3-LD (with a 31-mil feed spacer). [Pg.80]
